Michael Cammarata – Named Among the Finalists for the EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2017 Award
BEVERLY HILLS, CA / ACCESSWIRE / May 2, 2017 / For 31 years now, the annual Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award has been recognizing the best and brightest leaders shaping today’s ideas into tomorrow’s exceptional companies. Marketing pioneer and startup investor Michael Cammarata has been named one of the finalists for the 2017 award, in recognition for his work with launching Schmidt’s Naturals deodorant into the mainstream marketplace. When Cammarata met Schmidt’s founder Jaime Schmidt in 2014, she was selling the all-natural plant and mineral-based deodorant at local co-ops, farmer’s markets, and retail stores in Portland, Oregon. In only two years, Cammarata expanded the product into a national phenomenon, available now in thousands of retailers such as Target, Urban Outfitters, Kroger, Walmart and Amazon.
Michael Cammarata began his entrepreneurial career early, reaching success in his twenties for developing one of the first internet message boards, Ultraboard, as well as a website hosting venture which grew into a full-service Internet advertising and digital support company. More than 15 million websites still use the Ultraboard platform which led the way for other social media platforms like Myspace and Facebook. In 2015, Michael Cammarata launched the venture capital and private equity firm Random Occurrence, where he serves as Chief Global Strategist. The firm is actively investing and strategically partnering with groundbreaking new companies such as Schmidt’s Naturals. Divisions include consumer products, technology, and entertainment. He points to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos as his key inspiration, particularly admiring Bezos’ wide range of interests and the variety of companies his venture capital firm, Bezos Expeditions, invested in, including Airbnb, Uber, Blue Origin, Makerbot Industries and the Washington Post. Bezos himself won the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 1997, three years after founding Amazon, and the same year the company went public.
Keenly monitoring the Wall Street market like Bezos, Michael Cammarata was recently quoted in a Forbes article, describing the wide potential for Schmidt’s Naturals and the product’s guiding philosophy to expand beyond just bathroom products. “Ideally, there are not many companies in our space that are publicly traded, and I think there is demand for that,” said Cammarata, “I think the consumers are looking who could come into that and [establish] the standards to the natural products [market].”
Michael Cammarata is an innovative entrepreneur and internationally recognized business strategist. A pioneer in marketing to target-specific audiences through online promotions, sweepstakes and affinity-based targeting tactics that have since become a standard strategy for companies of all sizes, he went on to develop a product search and buying system that has since been adopted by some of the world’s largest manufacturers and retailers, including Costco. Cammarata has also invested into the entertainment industry, managing the internationally-popular boy band, Nickelodeon’s Big Time Rush, along with Party Down South. Currently, Cammarata serves as the Chief Global Strategist at Random Occurrence, a venture capital and private equity firm, where he oversees all current holdings, including businesses in consumer products, technology, and entertainment.
