Lawyer and short story writer Craig Chambers releases literary satire“F*ck You, Your Honor.” “F*ck You, Your Honor”receives 4.5 star review from San Francisco Book Review.
F*ck You, Your Honor is about Darwyn VanWyn, or “Wyn” as his TV commercials bill him, a low-end lawyer and real estate broker who is sentenced by a judge to write a book in order to save his law license. The book is supposed to be a 65,000-word book about the “dignity and integrity” of the legal system, and Wyn doesn’t want to do it.
“The book is both funny ha-ha and funny uh-oh. Chambers is great with both internal and external dialog, with well-rounded characters and settings, making F*ck You an easy, funny book. And along the way, you are introduced to some of the intricacies of the legal system and courtroom processes.” says Bradley Allen, San Francisco Book Review. The full review can be read HERE.
“I wanted to write a novel based on some of my experiences as a trial lawyer, but, of course, fiction. The cases would be the low-end cases that you usually end up taking, which can be just as quirky and traumatic as the big cases. I also wanted a main character who thought and acted like a lawyer” said author Chambers.
“The plot of the novel is based on a Wall Street Journal article about a pharmaceutical representative who was ordered to write a book as part of a plea agreement for lying to the Federal Trade Commission. Instead of writing the self-reflective and respectful book the judge ordered, the executive criticized the judge and the prosecutor. In my version — Fuck You, Your Honor — a low-end lawyer is sentenced to write a book. Naturally, as a lawyer, Attorney Darwyn VanWye likes to argue. And as he is dealing with his own personal crisis with his ex-wife, Amalia, he tries to find as many ways to get out of the order as he can.”
“F*ck You, Your Honor is the novel of what happens in Jimmy McGill’s head during any episode of Better Call Saul–especially if he was getting divorced and fighting with his ex-wife over his collection of vinyl records. Always meaning well, but making poor decisions along the way. The character of Wyn is so much like Jimmy, that after a while you begin to picture Bob Odenkirk’s face and voice while you read. If an audio book is ever produced, it will be a grave injustice for Odenkirk not to be the narrator” – Bradley Allen, San Francisco Book Review.
