Minnesota Businesses Come Together to offer Locally Made Products
According to a recent Consumer Report, 8 in 10 Americans would rather buy an American-made product than an imported one. Find out how companies in the Twin Cities are responding to the recent consumer interest in products that are made in the USA.
Saint Paul, United States – June 28, 2017 /NewsNetwork/ —
To help meet the growing consumer demand for locally made, high-quality goods, businesses across the country are increasingly offering American-made products.
According to a recent Consumer Reports survey, 80 percent of American consumers say they would rather buy an American-made product than an imported one. And over 6 in 10 people say that they’re willing to pay 10 percent more for it.
Whether the trend is due to a sense of patriotism, desire to support artisan goods, or the often- associated sense of quality, retailers and manufacturers seem ready to comply with the increasing demand for American-made products. From locally grown foods to handmade, artisanal goods, the trend toward American quality is on the rise.
The Reshoring Initiative, a nonprofit group focused on restoring American manufacturing jobs, reports that more than 300 companies have moved production back to the United States since 2010. As a result, products made in the U.S. are making their way back into more product offerings, merchandise shelves and online stores.
As both consumers and companies come to recognize the advantage of manufacturing and buying American-made products, it shines a light on the economic benefits to the country. It ensures a better and more stable future for the U.S. by supporting local businesses.
“By buying locally, consumers boost the strength of their communities, which in turn strengthens the entire nation,” said Niles Deneen, owner of Deneen Pottery in St. Paul. “Many local business owners are recognizing the value American-made products bring to both their sales and brand. It shows customers that the company cares about the success of the community as a whole, not just their own.”
Twin Cities Companies are Staying Local for the Consumer’s Benefit
From local boutiques and coffee shops, to eateries, breweries and more, Twin Cities companies are increasingly using locally sourced materials and offering domestic products.
Specialty makers like Deneen Pottery, one of the only custom pottery companies in the country that produces entirely American-made mugs, are also delivering on their promise to give consumers high-quality, 100-percent American-made products.
For example, Surly Brewing Company, a popular local craft beer company, offers a number of Minnesota-made products through their merchandise store – from Duluth Pack backpacks to Podiumwear bike jerseys and more – showing their support for local business partners. They also partner with Deneen to create custom-made mugs and ornaments boasting the Surly logo.
Eateries and coffee shops like Red Cow and UP Coffee Roasters are bringing local goods into their food and drink offerings as well. The Red Cow, with three locations in the Twin Cities, uses locally sourced ingredients in many of their meals, which supports local farmers and agriculture companies.
UP Coffee Roasters sources some of their ingredients globally, but promises local micro-roasts of their coffee beans, providing patrons with the freshest flavor possible. They also carry a number of Minnesota-made pastries, sandwiches and more, as well as artisan drinkware and handmade stoneware mugs from Deneen Pottery.
“While some business owners decide to go the cheap route and get their mass-produced products from overseas, there’s a strong locally oriented community here in the Twin Cities,” said Deneen. “As long as consumers keep demanding USA-made products, companies throughout the country should work to integrate them into their product lines, and feel pride in doing so.”
