The Boys & Girls Club of Fauquier deepens its commitment to fulfilling youth mental health and social/emotional development needs as identified in the 2015 Fauquier County Pride Survey. Patrice Jackson, MA, joined the Boys & Girls Club team May 1 and was tasked with the identification and assessment of child mental wellness gaps in the community, development of programs in response to those gaps, and building relationships with school social workers, administration, and social services agencies to open access to youth across Fauquier County and our surrounding counties.

Mrs. Jackson has a BS in Psychology and MA in Professional Counseling form Liberty University and is a Resident in Counseling recognized by the Virginia Department of Health Professions, Board of Counseling. She continues to accrue hours and work toward her professional licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).

“Patrice has already shown herself to be an invaluable asset to the Club and its mission to help all children, but especially those who need us most, to acquire the skills needed to become productive, civic minded and responsible citizens,” Club CEO, Lynne Richman Bell said. “She is passionate about giving all children equal opportunities for personal and professional success.”

“In the 2015 Pride Survey of 4450 7-12th graders, the statistic that rose to the top was that 1 in 5 children experience a mental health challenge each year and 33% experience anxiety or depression for 2 weeks or more. When we at the Club identify a child struggling with mental wellness, we couldn’t seem to get them in the system for services quickly enough. Our solution was to create a safety net by teaching elements of self-identification and indicator/symptom management to increase resiliency and over all social/emotional function. We developed some models of prevention and intervention through Patrice’s expertise. Our existing staff has embraced the methodology and sees its value in developing well rounded citizens. Patrice’s addition is a real win for our organizational relevance and the children we serve.”

Patrice added, “For me as a counselor, outpatient services occur usually as a result of an event that has already happened. With my presence here at the Club, I can intervene as certain behaviors are actuating. This gives all of us a clear and concise opportunity for teaching new and more effective personal and relational habits.”

Along with coordinating clinical services, Patrice will be conducting clinical groups to address anxiety, anger management and mindfulness/meditation. These programs are offered beginning June 27 and will restart at the beginning of the school year. These cognitive behavior therapy programs also represent diversification of the Club’s business model and expand the service offerings to the local Children’s Services Administration.

The Boys & Girls Club of Fauquier was established in 1997 in Taylor Middle School to help all boys and girls of all backgrounds, especially those who need us most to build confidence, develop character, and acquire the skills needed to become productive, civic-minded, responsible adults. The Club currently operates out of a facility on Keith Street in Warrenton and Cedar Lee Middle School in Bealeton. The Club serves almost 500 children annually ages 5 to 18.
