“McKinney, The New Comedy Central” says Dallas Morning News
Since 2006, Laura Bartlett has been a driving force in pioneering stand-up comedy in McKinney, TX. Almost immediately she brought stand-up comedy to downtown square with the successful “Historical to Hysterical” comedy series at McKinney’s performing arts center, located in the center of the town’s turn of the century downtown square. Along the way, she introduced the ‘burbs to comics Paul Varghese (“Last Comic Standing”), Aaron Aryanpur (MAXIM/Bud Light’s “Real Men of Comedy), L.A.-based comic Chuck Cason and others.
For the past 11 years, women have flocked to “Four Funny Females,” filling the 420-seat MPAC theater to see hilarious but clean stand-up comedy. The four women have become a community tradition garnering national, regional and local media attention along the way including but not limited to The New York Times, WFAA “Good Morning Texas,” The Dallas Morning News, McKinney Magazine, Texas Monthly, Plano Profile, Dallas Child, Bubble Life and McKinney Courier Gazette.
As a result, Bartlett will bring “Four Funny Females” to McKinney back for it’s 12th consecutive comedy series in 2018 with her award winning all-female cast of comedians: Jan Norton, Sherry Belle, and Linda Stogner, IMPROV Funniest Comic in Texas winner.

Laura is a survivor. She’s survived a West Texas childhood (thanks in no small part to her comedy-writing cohort, sister Barbara). Survived raising two boys as a single mom. She’s survived cancer. And now she’s surviving – flourishing even – in the often cut-throat world of stand-up comedy.
She loves the craft of comedy,” says Dean Lewis, considered by many to be the Godfather of the Dallas comedy scene. “She loves to do stand-up for the sake of doing stand-up.”
In addition to producing Four Funny Females and performing at corporate events, Laura’s opened for the iconic Amazing Kreskin and famed Saturday Night Live alum Victoria Jackson.
Bartlett has a knack for spotting the absurd in everyday life. From pet adoptions to benefits for tongue cancer survivors, she finds the point at which things get silly. After all, she says, “you can’t spell life without silly. Well, you can. And you should. But what fun is that?”
As much as Bartlett loves comedy, she’s equally at home in her producer hat – handling bookings, venue negotiations and marketing with a sure hand and, as always, a sense of humor. “If it has my name associated with it, I want to make sure the performers and the audience have a great experience,” she says.
