Attorney Kevin Cortright Comments on Ultra Light Plane Crash Off of Point Mugu

July 21, 2017 – – One person died and one person was injured on July 8th at around 5:00 pm when an ultra-light aircraft crashed off of Mugu Rock.

An Ultralight airplane is a very lightweight one or two-person seat fixed-wing aircraft. Both male victims were rescued by civilians and brought to shore, however one remained unconscious after CPR was administered and was later pronounced dead later at the hospital. The other left with minor injuries and survived.

The plane, part of a group of three other aircrafts in a flying club, left from Camarillo Airport on Saturday before it went down. The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board is currently investigating the cause of the ultra light plane crash.

Kevin Cortright stated, “I have personally settled a case involving a previous accident with a plane out of Camarillo Airport, and have first hand knowledge of the safety complications that can come along with aircrafts such as this. Unfortunately from my prior experience I have found that some of the the people owning and flying the experimental ultra light aircraft do not appreciate the dangers associated with these aircraft flying out of the Camarillo airfield. Additionally they do not consistently pass on the warning of danger and proper safety procedures to their invited guest. I send my condolences to the family of the deceased and hope this is the last accident involving these aircrafts and at this facility.”
