Orlando, United States – July 31, 2017 /PressCable/ —
On June 1, 2017, Attorney Deanna E. Rahming (formally Ebanks), joined Gans Law, P.A. – a rapidly rising criminal defense firm in Orlando, Florida, founded by Brandon M. Gans, Esq. With over 10 years of criminal litigation and trial experience including dozens of criminal jury trials, Deanna is an accomplished criminal defense litigator. However, the journey to being recognized today as one of the Top 40 Under 40 Criminal Defense Attorneys by the National Trial Lawyers Association and The National Black Trial Lawyers Association is a fascinating one.
In 1996, while many of the attorney’s peers may have been talking about what was planned to do over the weekend or what was popular to wear to school the next day, in between track practice and studying for the International Baccalaureate (IB) honor classes, Deanna spent every available second glued to the television set. However, Deanna wasn’t watching the 90s version of Keeping Up With the Kardashians or ordering music videos on The Box, instead the future lawyer was watching the O.J. Simpson trial and listening to every single word coming out of the mouth of one of the world’s most famous and respected criminal defense attorneys- the late, great, Johnnie L. Cochran, Jr. From the lawyer’s courtroom style and mannerisms to the catchy phrases, Deanna was completely mesmerized and in awe of the leader of “The Dream Team.” This created a dream for Deanna, a dream of one day becoming “the next Johnnie Cochran,” was cemented on Valentine’s Day, 2004, when afforded the life-changing opportunity to speak with Mr. Cochran over the telephone, a conversation that occurred by what could only be described as kismet. During that conversation, Deanna told Mr. Cochran of the dream of would be “the next Johnnie Cochran” and recalls how encouraging the popular attorney was for Deanna to do just that.
From that moment forward, Deanna was determined to keep the promise made to the man credited with being one of the main driving forces behind Deanna’s decision to become a criminal defense attorney. In time, Deanna would take the necessary steps to begin the fulfillment of the promise that made to Johnnie Cochran a little more than a year before his death from cancer in 2005.
Originally from West Palm Beach, Florida, Deanna earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Florida, where as student Deanna majored in Psychology and graduated with Honors. Deanna then attended the University of Miami – School of Law, earning the Dean’s Merit Scholarship and Honors in Litigation Skills, Trial Advocacy. Upon taking and passing the Florida Bar Examination on the first attempt, in May 2007, Deanna earned admission into The Florida Bar and immediately started working at the Law Offices of Public Defender in Broward County, Florida. After leaving the Public Defender’s Office, Deanna worked as Regional Counsel defending persons accused of serious felonies. Later, Deanna worked and climbed the ladder to be the lead criminal defense attorney in the Miami office of The Cochran Firm, the national firm founded by the same late, great, Johnnie L. Cochran Jr. that Deanna made that promise to 13 years ago. Deanna was also the Managing Attorney at The Ebanks Rahming Firm. Throughout the aspiring attorney’s career, Deanna has handled cases in more than a dozen counties across the state of Florida.
Deanna has successfully tried cases ranging from misdemeanors to felonies punishable by life imprisonment, securing “Not Guilty” jury verdicts and “Mistrials” for clients charged with “Attempted First Degree Murder with a Firearm and Great Bodily Injury,” “Aggravated Battery – Deadly Weapon,” “Burglary of a Dwelling,” “Home Invasion Robbery,” “Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer,” “Assault,” “Battery,” and “Driving Under the Influence,” to name a few.
In addition to Deanna’s current accolades as one of the Top 40 Under 40 criminal defense attorneys in the state, while working at The Cochran Firm, Deanna was also featured as one of the “Attorneys to Watch in 2013 – Profiles of Professionalism” in Attorney at Law Magazine – Greater Miami Edition. However, just when things seemed like they could not get any better for the young, bright, superstar, life dealt her one of the biggest blows an individual can face. In 2013, at the age of 32 and only months after the feature in the Attorney at Law Magazine, Deanna was diagnosed with Stage IIA breast cancer and began what Deanna calls “the biggest fight of a lifetime, for life” and won. Now in remission, Deanna is along with other cancer survivors a living and walking miracle. As a fighter, both inside and outside of the courtroom, Deanna approaches life head on and isn’t afraid of the toughest challenges.
In addition to all the accomplishments as a criminal defense attorney, Deanna has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Keiser University in Pembroke Pines, Florida, where the law professional taught legal classes to students enrolled in the Paralegal and Legal Studies program.
Deanna’s motto is to “use the stumbling blocks of life as stepping stones to a bigger and brighter future,” and ultimately takes pride in providing “passionate, reliable, and dedicated” legal representation to all clients.
