Jellybean Junction Preschool: Melbourne Fl: was named 1 of only 3 schools chosen by the Early Learning Coalition of Brevard Count as a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) program school. Details about the award can be found on the company website at http://www.jellybeanjunction.info/STEM
Research shows that early childhood is the right time to focus on STEM education. Young children are natural scientists, inherently inquisitive, and interested in all-things-science at the exact time when their ability to learn fundamental concepts and skills is at its peak.
Early exposure to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math – STEM promotes executive function, leads to higher scores in literacy and language, and facilitates the expression of knowledge and understanding of spoken words. Children who receive this STEM exposure show long-term gains in both cognitive and social development, thus increasing their chances for success in school and life.
Ignite Discovery: STEM Foundations has three major components for the preschool audience and their educational and home families:
1. Teacher Professional Development – the Orlando Science Center experts equip preschool providers with the skills, tools, and concrete ideas to encourage children to enhance and promote their natural curiosity exploring the worlds of science, technology, engineering and math.
2. Classroom Workshops – interactive 50-minute sessions that encourage students to explore and interpret their world. Topics include: Magnets, the Sun and Stars, Technology and Computer Science, and many more. 3. Family Engagement Events – be involved with facilitating simple learning activities for the home that support and reinforce a parent’s role as their child’s first teacher.
Potential award recipients involved Interviews of school teachers and directors, and require 38 hours of S.T.E.M. program training. Denise Bergman, Director of Jellybean Junction Preschool was pleased about the company’s performance, saying: “Jellybean is proud to be 1 of only 3 preschool chosen to incorporate the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) system into our classrooms and will be hosting a family science night at our center” “Contact us for dates and times (321) 242-2011”
