LOS ANGELES, CA / ACCESSWIRE / August 16, 2017 / The City of Los Angeles and KABC Radio have joined to recognize veteran legal analyst Royal Oakes as he marks his 30th anniversary as a leading contributor to local newscasts, including KABC Radio where his reports can be heard regularly.
On Friday August 18, the City of Los Angeles will salute Royal Oakes with a Proclamation to be issued by City Councilmember Curren D. Price (CD9) in a ceremony to take place in the Council Chambers at 10:30 am. KABC Radio and its companion website (www.kabc.com) will join with the City of L.A. to salute Royal with special features and content that explore his distinguished work through the past three decades.
Royal began his noted career as a legal analyst in 1987, providing commentary on the day’s top legal news developments for KFWB and KABC radio, and for KABC-TV and KNBC-TV weekday newscasts. Royal became relied upon by L.A. media to deliver his thoughtful and thought-provoking analysis and legal insights for cases involving O.J. Simpson, Michael Jackson, and Robert Blake, where in addition to his extensive reporting, Royal played a defining role in persuading Judge Ito to allow cameras to remain in the courtroom. Royal has also covered the trials of Bill Cosby, Rodney King, Sheriff Leroy Baca, Conrad Murray, Casey Anthony, George Zimmerman, Jerry Sandusky, and Governor Blagojevich. His legal journalistic contributions for three decades has earned him the trust and respect of media and Los Angelinos alike who have come to appreciate Royal’s balanced and compelling analysis. Royal has received two Golden Mike awards for his legal commentary.
At the national level Royal serves as a Legal Analyst for ABC News, and has provided commentary on hundreds of occasions to television networks, and on programs such as Inside Edition, Entertainment Tonight and Extra. In July, Royal launched his own national radio show that airs Saturdays at 3:00 pm Pacific Time on CRN Digital Talk Radio and features Royal’s unique analysis of the week’s major legal headline stories.
A lifelong Angelino, Royal Oakes grew up in Canoga Park and attended UCLA and UCLA Law School, and has worked at his same downtown Los Angeles law firm since graduation. In addition to his role as a partner in the law firm of Hinshaw & Culbertson and his nearly daily legal analysis activity, Royal serves as General Counsel of the Radio and Television News Association of Southern California, a post he has held for 20 years.
”Throughout his three decades as one of L.A.’s most prominent media legal analysts, Royal Oakes has helped keep millions of Angelinos informed with his unique ability to bring clarity to complexity. Royal is part of the fabric of our city, helping to foster understanding and promote positive values through his reporting. I am proud to be issuing the proclamation recognizing Royal Oakes on his 30th anniversary as L.A.’s preeminent legal analyst,” said Councilmember Price.
