Harness to Throw First Pitch at Tampa Bay Rays Game
August 18, 2017 – – St. Petersburg, Florida – Harness, a local Tampa technology start-up, will be throwing out the first pitch at the Tampa Bay Rays game on Saturday, August 19. The game is at 6:10 pm at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, where the Tampa Bay Rays will face the Seattle Mariners.
Harness is a local technology start-up that focuses on fundraising technology for nonprofits through iPhone and web applications that helps donors give small change to help the work of charities and foundations. Their client partners include nonprofits, religious groups, alumni associations and foundations.
Among their clients: Ronald McDonald House Charities, Paralyzed Veterans of America and the Children’s Miracle Network.
The company was given the honor of throwing out the first pitch after winning the 2016 Grand Slam Pitch Competition.
The competition was co-hosted by Tampa Bay Rays executives, Stephen Thomas, Director of Community Engagement, Bill Wiener Jr., VP of Employees and Community Engagement, and Jeff Tanzer, Senior Director of Ticket Sales, and The Tampa Bay WaVE, a non-profit dedicated to helping Tampa entrepreneurs turn their ideas into technology ventures. This is the second time the Rays have judged a pitch competition for WaVE. The first time was in 2014.
“Helping charities raise money has great appeal,” Tanzer says. “They get customers promoting them. We think the concept is edgy, innovative.”
