Winnipeg, Canada – September 1, 2017 /PressCable/ —
The Month of September , The Civility Center Reminds Us – “Every One of Us Has Something Of Value To Contribute To The World – Who I Am Makes A Difference.”
Internationally renowned as the “go to” organization for anything related to civility, The Civility Center has created a monthly calendar that includes events, ideas, and inspiration from around the world The Civility Calendar is available free online with the objective of encouraging people to bring their most kind, most considerate, and most civil self to all their interactions. Each month focuses on a different aspect of civility and its interaction with life, and September is, appropriately : CIVILITY AT SCHOOL.
“Civility is in short supply in our schools, but there is great demand for it. Civility, like all other social and emotional skills, must be taught as core content in our schools and higher education institutions, especially teacher education programs. ” – Dr Candice Dowd Barnes, Assoc. Professor, Elementary, Literacy and Special Education – University of Central Arkansas
The message is : Attending school should be a fun and friendship filled learning experience for children aged 5-18. But when children are afraid to attend due to bullying, economic status, cultural backgrounds, communications barriers, or other issues, school can become a source of anxiety, fear and sadness. Beginning with kindergarten, school influences how children see the world and how they imagine their futures. We can all do more, and do better, to make school a positive, happy place where can learn and grow into their best selves.
Every month includes an affirmation, and for September, the mantra is : “Every One of Us Has Something Of Value To Contribute To The World – Who I Am Makes A Difference.”
