LOS ANGELES, CA / ACCESSWIRE / September 4, 2017 / Roger Croft, author of the popular Michael Vaux spy novels, is pleased to announce the release of his newest book “Warehouse of Souls.” The fourth novel in his spy series features retired journalist-turned-MI6 agent Michael Vaux.

As Croft notes, the new novel begins with Vaux feeling at loose ends after Anne, his long-time girlfriend, leaves to care for her ill father. After just one night on his own, an old colleague of Vaux’s from Department B3—a maverick sub-group of MI6’s Mideast and North Africa desk—appears at his door.
“Someone in Beirut is unmasking dozens of MI6 agents and assets in the Middle East, endangering their lives and blowing several key operations. Vaux is asked to come in from the cold and hunt down the traitorous double agent,” Croft noted.
When asked what inspired him to write a new Michael Vaux novel, in addition to the highly-acclaimed Mideast Spy Trilogy, Croft said that many of his loyal readers wanted to know what Vaux was up to in his retirement.
“You’ll remember that after leaving his newspaper job he was asked to serve ‘Queen and country’ in their efforts to uncover Syria’s plans for a big arms deal with Russia,” Croft said.
The basis for Vaux’s “recruitment” into MI6 (the UK’s Secret Intelligence Service), Croft said, was his college friendship with the then-current Syrian chief arms negotiator. Despite Vaux’s skepticism that his mission could succeed, Operation Helvetia ended successfully.
This caused Vaux to become an amateur and reluctant hero of sorts and play key roles in subsequent intelligence operations staged in Cairo and Syria in “Operation Saladin” and in Morocco where “The Maghreb Conspiracy” played out.
Now, in his new novel, MI6’s Department B3 asks Vaux to take a new assignment—to hunt down the mole, or double-agent, who’s sabotaging Britain’s counter-terrorism and strategic plans in the Middle East.
“As Michael goes deep undercover in Lebanon, he learns that MI6’s station in Beirut is full of power players with their own personal agendas,” Croft said, adding that in this once-glamorous city, Vaux finds his own agency at odds with itself.
“Vaux’s first task is to determine whom he can trust among the surviving cutouts and secret agents whose help he needs to uncover the mole in their midst.”
