Chicago, United States – January 17, 2018 /PressCable/ —
Styles 4 Kidz announces the success of the organization’s second Fall Soiree. Families and volunteers enjoyed entertainment, a silent auction, appetizers and favor bags while learning how to support transracial adoptive homes and foster care communities.
The third Styles 4 Kidz Fall Soiree is scheduled for November 17, 2018. Workshops and training sessions aimed at educating foster facilities, foster families and adoptive parents in hair care basics occur throughout the year. Hair services are provided by certified stylists to kids living in group homes, foster care and adoptive families.
In 2017, the Styles 4 Kidz Group Home program provided hairstyle services to 47 children. The Style-A-Kid service (a fee-for-service program) provided 153 services to children in the 2017-2017 fiscal year.
“The mission of Styles 4 Kidz is to provide high-quality, compassionate hair care education and services for African-American kids in foster care and transracial adoptive families,” says Tamekia Swint, founder and director of Styles 4 Kidz. “Many foster homes and transracial adoptive parents simply aren’t prepared for the demands of African-American hair care. Our vision is to help caregivers learn how to create, maintain and celebrate hairstyles that boost the kids’ self-esteem and cultural pride.”
Will Madden, cofounder of Whole Brain Consulting, is on the Board of Directors of Styles 4 Kidz. Madden and colleagues worked to get food, drinks, and silent auction items donated in addition to financially supporting the cause. Whole Brain Consulting negotiates contracts between food companies and co-manufacturers and provides outsourced operations services such as supply chain and quality control evaluations.
Volunteers are needed for the 2018 Soiree to provide entertainment, donate food or drink, or to donate time for set up, take down, decorating, event planning, running the silent auction, and helping with publicity. The organization also seeks additional volunteers interested in providing hair care services, hair care education or professional services that would expand the program reach.
Those interested in volunteering or attending an event can contact Tamekia Swint at the organization’s new website: www.styles4kidz.org.
