The lawyers at Nadrich & Cohen will pursue injury claims on behalf of fire and mudslide victims and their families. The attorneys will also pursue damage and loss claims on behalf of homeowners and business owners in Ventura County and Santa Barbara County who were impacted by the recent disasters.
When asked about the Thomas Fire and Montecito mudslides claims, lead partner, Jeffrey Nadrich stated, “We intend to fight on behalf of Ventura County and Santa Barbara County residents who were injured or whose homes, businesses or land were damaged or destroyed by these fires. All responsible parties must be held accountable for these tragic events.”
Thomas Fire
On December 4th, 2017, first reports of a fire near Lake Casillas were reported. The fire affected over 280,000 acres, destroyed 1,063 structures and damaged many more. A large fire fighting force was assembled, at its peak consisting of more than 8,500 fire fighters. This is the largest number of fire fighters to combat a wildfire in California’s history.
Montecito Mudslides
Following the Thomas Fire and its destruction of trees and vegetation greatly increased the risk of mudslides when it rained. The Montecito mudslides began on January 9th, 2018, and killed at least 21 people. The mudslides caused trees, cars and homes to be destroyed. It has been reported that 20 million pounds of debris has been removed following the mudslide. In total, 400 homes were destroyed or damaged by the recent mudslides.
Thomas Fire & Mudslide Lawsuit
Nadrich & Cohen’s Fire lawyers are researching and building a case against the utility company for its failure to properly maintain electrical lines, transformers and key electrical components. The utility company’s negligent maintenance created dangerous conditions making it very easy for trees and vegetation to ignite as a result of coming into contact with the negligently maintained power lines.
This would not be the first time that a utility company has been held liable for wildfires as a result of failing to properly maintain electrical infrastructure. Most recently, in 2015, PG&E was sued by homeowners and business owners who sustained damages, losses and injuries as a result of failure to safely maintain power lines. Those cases recently settled. In 2007, SoCal Edison was ordered to pay $37 million in fines following the Malibu Canyon Fire which was started by negligently maintained power lines and electrical infrastructure.
Anyone who has suffered damages, a loss or who was injured as a result of the recent mudslides and Thomas fire are urged to immediately contact the legal team at the Nadrich & Cohen, LLP Thomas Fire & Mudslide Lawsuit Intake Center in Ventura County. Nadrich & Cohen works solely on a contingency fee basis, so that no fee is collected unless or until a recovery is made.
