Dr. Hetland is a Certified Decompression Practitioner, Educator and a leader in the health & Injury field. Building off his specialty as a Gonstead Doctor of Chiropractic which emphasizes a very through spine and disc examination and adjustment, Dr. Hetland has spent endless hours working on fixing disc and nerve conditions that cause lower back pain. Through research, education and application of his Gonstead adjusting, Dr. Hetland uses light-laser, non-surgical decompression, functional movement screening and assessments for finding and treating movement disorders.
What Is Laser-Guided Spinal Decompression?
Nonsurgical Spinal Disc-Decompression is a type of motorized traction works by gently stretching the spine axially to create more space between the vertebrae and open the nerve holes. This changes the force and position of the spine in a way that causes a negative pressure in the spinal disc, which are gel-like substances with water back into the center of the disc.
As a result, bulging or herniated disks may retract, taking pressure off nerves and other structures in your spine. This in turn, helps promote movement of water, oxygen, and nutrient-rich fluids into the disks so they can heal.
Low Level Laser Therapy is a treatment that utilizes specific wavelengths of light to interact with tissue and is thought to help accelerate the healing process. It can be used on patients who suffer from a variety of acute and chronic conditions in order to help eliminate pain, swelling, reduce spasms and increase functionality. Once the photons of light that are being emitted from the laser pass through the skins layers it causes a physiological reaction at the cell level creating an increase in ATP which is energy, so its simply put adding energy to cells that are injured to effect a quicker healing response.
“I have been blown away with the success we have had in the office treating nerve and disc condition that are causing pain. Most of my patient show dramatic improvement with just a few visits,” said Dr. Hetland in a recent interview.
Several other injuries occur when the disc and nerve are damaged that if not addressed properly may not heal as quickly or may not heal at all and stay or become chronic pain sources. Misalignments in the spine from trauma or accumulative effects from poor posture, poor muscle health everyday routines causing stress to the spine and surrounding soft tissues to name a few may cause continued disc nerve irritation if not properly evaluated and corrected.
Disc specific adjustments and Light Laser Therapy are two very advanced and specific techniques that Dr. Hetland has studied and used extensively to get better results for correcting and healing these tough acute and chronic disc conditions.
Dr. Hetland’s treatments are used to treat:
• Back or neck pain or sciatica, which is pain, weakness, or tingling that extends down the leg
• Bulging or herniated disks or degenerative disk disease
• Worn spinal joints (called posterior facet syndrome)
