Evolve has been passionately helping patients regain their health over the past five years. As a practice that provides both osteopathy treatment and corrective exercise rehabilitation services, their key specialisms have been the treating of sports people, such as London 2012 Paralympic athletes, professional and amateur golfers, footballers, runners and even Winter Sports enthusiasts, such as Skiers, with musculoskeletal treatment and rehabilitation. As part of the development of their services they integrate a ‘Naturopathic’ approach to helping patients individually overcome health and performance challenges with the training attained from the CHEK Institute in California; and also the Naturopathic Medicine in London.

This treatment is being used for a variety of problems arising from regular and vigorous sporting activities, therefore treating patients who are either part time sports enthusiasts or patients who are semi-professional. It provides for some key differences from traditional treatment: Quick relief from common sporting injuries – with a reduction in the time taken to treat pain; and the continual consultation to improve the physique of the patient.

Thomas Smith, Owner of Evolve, when asked about this treatment said:

“I believe that if life is worth living, it is worth living to the maximum of your potential, and therefore to strive for something bigger than the crisis that the patient might find themselves in. My mission is to help the person rather than solely treating just the symptoms alone. It is like the analogy of giving a person a fish, instead of giving the person a fish, you teach the person how to fish and which fish will feed the person for the rest of his life. This promotes an active and pro-active approach to the patients treatments, which suits many of the sports people that I treat. We therefore have over time developed practices that enable patients to get back from sports injuries very quickly, but also improve their health in the longer term. We aim to provide relief and effective long term treatment.”

Sports Injuries can prove to be very debilitating and usually include some of the following injuries:

Golfers suffer from chronic back and elbow pain from faults in the golf swing. Golfers commonly suffer from inflammation of the tenders that attach the forearm muscles to the bone of the inner side of the patients elbow; and Tennis players who suffer from lateral Elbow pain(lateral epicondylitis).

Shoulder pain which is relevant to most sports because of the shoulder being continually active during an exercise. Therefore impacting the muscles of the rotator cuff (muscles situated around the shoulder joint). From an Osteopath view point these can be seen as problems resulting from the spine and hips and abdominal wall.

Lower back pain can be attributed to the repetitive stress of activities, consisting of powerful rotation and extension motions during the activity, for instance a golf swing, or tennis shot. These can all be improved by Evolve’s CHEK Methods.
