Just released, the spoiled child blog post and podcast offers advice on how to stop overindulging children. So, parents can avoid temper tantrums and other challenging behavior. Cohen explains that spoiled is far more than the amount of items that we give a child. Usually, the boundaries set by a parent and the behavior displayed by a child determine whether or not a child is spoiled. Consequently, when a child takes charge and parents can’t say ‘no’ or set limits, then this represents an example of spoiled.
Cohen suggests that parents need to say ‘no’ and let the child have a tantrum, even if this is uncomfortable, and then move on. Often spoiling is more about the parent’s behavior than a child’s, and it’s up to a parent to control the situation and reinforce good behavior. And, according to Cohen, being spoiled is not dependent on how much attention a child receives. “An infant is not spoiled by picking them up.” said Cohen. “Studies show that the faster we pick babies up, the more we meet their needs. Spoiling typically begins after the one-year mark, as babies become toddlers.”
Empowering parents to make informed decisions about raising their children, Parent Savers helps moms and dads cope with everyday life and the ups and downs of parenting. With the help of expert advice, parents receive the superhero strength needed to deal with everyday issues and tackle those dirty diapers.
