THIS 4th OF JULY THE REVOLUTION BEGINS: THE FIRST PURGE
Composer Kevin Lax Brings new thrills to the horror genre with the premiere of sci-fi blockbuster The First Purge
LOS ANGELES – July 2, 2018 /SE7ENTWOPR/ —
Manhattan Beach-based Composer Kevin Lax brings a new type of horror to the big screen this July 4th with the release of the fourth installment in The Purge series.
The First Purge, by Universal Pitctures, is directed by Gerard McMurray and stars Marisa Tomei, Y’Lan Noel, Lex Scott Davis, Joivan Wade, and Luna Lauren Velez.
The new prequel focuses on the series of events that led to the rise of our country’s 12 hours of annual lawlessness. Welcome to the movement that began as a simple experiment: The First Purge. James DeMonaco, the sieries’s writer and director, steps into the producing chair, allowing the new generation of storytellers to take the reins.
The film takes the audience back to the beginning, when the New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA) test a sociological theory that vents aggression for one night in one isolated community. But when the violence of oppressors meets the rage of the marginalized, the contagion will explode from the trial-city borders and spread across the nation.
Lax’s intricate score captures the intense heart-stopping suspence of of any good ‘slasher’ flick while highlighting the many faces of human emotion.
“My take on the score was to capture the fear, suspense, and the intensity of what it might feel like to experience such a terrifying experiment as The First Purge, while also bringing out some of the humanness of the characters and their relationships in the movie. So basically, raw, visceral energy meets human sentiment,” says Lax of his new work.
Last year Lax debuted his first work Netflix with the original score Burning Sands and is now delivering Juanita, his second soundtrack for film and and television giant. The Manhattan Beach-based composer previously scored two documentaries for R&B stars Mary J. Blige and Chris Brown, respectively and is currently collaborating with yet another hitmaker. This should suffice as a pointer that Lax is a rising artists and a composer to look out for.
The film is backed by a horror powerhouse that includes Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum (Get Out, Paranormal Activity, Insidious) and Platinum Dunes’ Michael Bay, Brad Fuller & Andrew Form (A Quiet Place, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), and Sébastien K. Lemercier.
