Florida Motorcycle Attorney says Honda Introduces Free Tracker on New Motorcycles

With the introduction of the TrakKING Adventure system, Honda has become the world’s first motorcycle manufacturer to offer a free tracking device with the purchase of a new bike.

Honda Motorcycles is a company that has long had a reputation of being dedicated to customer service and safety. This week, it once again set the standard and the precedent for the industry by offering a free tracking system to customers who buy its motorcycles in the UK. Honda Motorcycles UK joined forces with Datatool in the first partnership of its kind to offer tracking equipment fitted free of charge to riders of every single on-road Honda motorcycle sold in the country after July 2, 2018.

The device is Tatcham Quality Assured and accredited as Secure by Design by the UK police. Called the TrakKING Adventure system, it brings with it some enticing features and possible financial benefits.

Officially listed as an anti-theft device, the TrakKING constantly monitors the bike’s location. That is just the tip of its capabilities, though. It is also designed to automatically notify the owner through their smartphone if it detects unusual activity.

Beyond this, it allows the recording of routes ridden that can then be shared with friends online through the free iOS or Android app. Currently, the mapping technology and tracking capability cover the entirety of Western Europe.

As the UK’s top-selling motorcycle brand, Honda has been anxious to demonstrate its support of the country’s recently announced MCIA Secured initiative. Specifically, it is eager to highlight the role that manufacturers can play in reducing crime.

England has suffered a rash of crimes in the last few months involving motorcycles and scooters. Thieves are first stealing bikes and then using them to commit second crimes. Mainly, these have been armed robberies and strong-arm muggings. This has led to a joint initiative by the British government and the Motor Industry Association of England to raise awareness of bike security and theft prevention.

Honda’s free system should go a long way in this regard. Head of Motorcycles at Honda UK Neil Fletcher was quoted as saying, “This groundbreaking safety and security initiative is a long-term Honda commitment to ensuring peace of mind for riders of Honda’s on-road range. Fitting a tracking device such as TrakKING Adventure is a significant deterrent, looked on favorably by insurance companies, and can lead to around 90 percent of bikes being returned to their owner if they are unfortunate enough to be stolen. For riders, dealers and insurers, it’s a win-win scenario, speeding up the process of getting back on the road and ensuring customers retain their Honda motorcycle.”

In fact, tracking devices have been found to be so effective as deterrents that insurance companies in the UK now offer discounts as high as 25 percent to motorcycle owners who equip their bikes with tracking devices.

To further show its support, Honda is also offering deep discounts to riders who already own one of its bikes and would like to have it retrofitted with the TrakKING Adventure system. This service costs about £349 or $460 U.S.

One American lawyer who keeps his finger on the pulse of the U.S. bike market, Florida motorcycle attorney , Brad Sinclair questioned when Honda might make a similar move in the Americas. “I’m in no way degrading the efforts that Honda is making for our brothers across the pond, but the U.S. is still the largest upscale motorcycle in the world. I have to wonder why it chose the UK over us to make this introduction. It could be due to the initiative that is currently underway in Britain or due to product liability laws working differently there. Either way, it would be nice to see a comparable offer here.”
