Eliason School of Music | Piano Lessons Portland and Brian Eliason are pleased to announce that the school has developed an exciting and unique approach for violin students. The method, known as the Goldilocks Method, has been slightly adapted so that it can be effectively utilized by cello students of Eliason Music. Brian Eliason was not certain initially whether the Goldilocks Method would work for cello students as well as it did for violin students.
According to Brian Eliason, “The main concern I had when adapting the Goldilocks Method was the difference in size between the two instruments. Applying the first of the seven keys in the Goldilocks Method would involve the bow hold, which is different for a cello player compared to a violin player. My cello students had fun using the Goldilocks Method and became more eager to practice. I developed this method over a decade ago. It has allowed my students to learn violin at a faster pace and have fun at the same time.”
“It can be very effective for youngsters to learn by connecting with their minds in a childlike way” he continues. “Everyone is familiar with the Goldilocks story, and it is fun for students to take the wisdom taught in the story and to apply it to their cello playing. My method also works for adult or more advanced young students. I have found though, that adults may tend to overthink learning the cello and can block themselves.”
Brian has additional projects in the works. He will be creating a version of his book on the Goldilocks Method which is designed specifically for the cello. At present, plans are for producing the book as an ebook. It will have illustrations, lessons and pictures so that it can be used at home. Eliason also has a goal of creating videos for additional help to learn the instrument.
