Charleston GI is launching a new initiative this March in recognition of Colon Cancer Awareness Month: Paint Charleston Blue. Using its trusted voice to spread the word, Charleston GI is calling for locals to help turn our city blue.

As the first and largest independent GI practice in the Lowcountry, Charleston GI hopes that the Paint Charleston Blue initiative will not only spark conversations, but a larger movement that leads to more cancer screenings and ultimately, more saved lives.

Residents are encouraged to get involved by taking these three simple steps:

Care. Remind loved ones 50+ to schedule a colonoscopy.

To encourage the community to wear blue throughout the month, Charleston GI will hand out blue ribbons at all four of its convenient locations.

The Paint Charleston Blue initiative, while a colorful campaign, is a fun spin on a very serious subject. Colon cancer is expected to claim 51,020 lives in 2019, with over 101,000 new diagnoses. But the good news, and the reason Charleston GI is so committed to providing a higher standard of care, is that 60% of deaths can be prevented by screening. And the survival rate soars to 90% for those diagnosed early. That s why the American Cancer Society urges men and women to start getting colonoscopies at age 50.
