150,000 UK Construction Jobs to be Created

Over the next 5 years, the UK property sector could see a growing construction industry bringing 150,000 new jobs.

Newbury, United Kingdom – June 10, 2019 / /

The CITB predicts 158k new jobs will be created over the next 5 years due to housing demand and a buoyant commercial property sector, particularly in London, despite Brexit and the collapse of Carillion.

London’s commercial property sector is still growing, with large scale regeneration and new-build projects underway across the capital. Commercial property investment actually rose to £3.2 billion in the first quarter of 2019, representing a 28% increase on the first quarter of 2018, according to Savills. This growth is exemplified in a few new and ongoing projects.

Construction of London City’s largest tower, 22 Bishopsgate, is scheduled to be completed by end of the year. The building is already taller than its Square Mile neighbours and offers 118,451m² of space across 62 storeys. This space will accommodate 12,000 workers, a fresh food market, a ‘wellbeing retreat and curated art walk’, and London’s highest free public viewing gallery.

Procession House is another example of a fabulous regeneration project changing the face of London and providing a boost to the UK’s construction industry. With over 100,000 sq ft of office and retail space Procession House is in a great location right on top of the City Thameslink Station and within walking distance of Farringdon, London Blackfriars and St. Paul’s.

Speaking of the Procession House Project, Nigel Bennett, Technical Director at See Brilliance, comments: “Our operatives have worked on some of London’s most iconic buildings, monuments and bridges, using specialist restorative cleaning techniques to safeguard against the harsh surrounding environment. We recently completed full restorative works on the prestigious Procession House building, just a short walk from Blackfriars Bridge. The 105,000 sq ft building recently sold for £68M but was in need of complete external restoration.

“Years of weathering and pollution had taken its toll on the stone cladding of Procession House. No stranger to this type of project, our operatives were able to achieve approximately an 85% improvement to the building’s exterior stone and brickwork using specialist products and DOFF steam cleaning techniques.”
