Angels’music gathering, rising star cellist and ac-claimed violinist featured at fundraising concert in Shanghai

Young musicians Yuqi Jiang and Qing Yu Chen performed in Shanghai Symphony Chamber Hall on June 15th, 2019 to make a statement about connecting with the world, and protecting the environment.

Young musicians Yuqi Jiang and Qing Yu Chen performed in Shanghai Symphony Chamber Hall on June 15th, 2019 to make a statement about connecting with the world, and protecting the environment. 

“While we wished to present a cohesive selection of classical music that held personal meaning to each of us, we also decided to donate all proceeds to our newest environmental awareness project.” said cellist Yuqi Jiang and event planner Boran Wang. 

Ms. Jiang was raised in New York City from the age of 4 and studies cello with Minhye Clara Kim at the renowned Juilliard Pre- College program at since age 9. She has performed in various venues such as Carnegie Hall and Merkin Concert Hall, and has won various prizes such as the First Prizes of the 2018 International Grande Music Competition, 2017 Golden Key Music Festival and Competition, and 2017 Rondo Vanguard Competition respectively. 

Born in the United States, Ms. Chen graduated from the Juilliard Pre-College Division in 2018, and has won numerous awards such as the 2017 YoungArts Finalist award and the 2017 Silver Medal at the Cooper International Violin Competition. She has performed in Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium and with the Cleveland Orchestra in Severance Hall.    She is currently a student of Columbia University and The Juilliard School Exchange Program. 

Both artists played a selection of  music including Bach, Beethoven, Wieniawski, Shostakovich and Glass to a standing ovation. Accompanying the pair on the piano was acclaimed pianist Noreen Polera, and the evening wrapped up with an encore of the Shostakovich Preludes for Violin and Cello.

A six-year-old audience member comments: “Hearing the cello and violin sing together on stage has really motivated me to practice hard. I hope I will perform on the stage one day like Ms. Jiang.”
