Pensacola Salvage Yard Hosts K-9 Officer Training

June 27, 2019 – – Pensacola, FL. – When the community is in need, they rely on their local law enforcement to come to their aid but when law enforcement needs assistance, they turn to a unique team of officers in their department, the K-9 unit. A Pensacola salvage yard has recently had the pleasure of playing host as two new officers get trained up for the field.

The K-9 Unit is a part of the Uniform Patrol Division in the Pensacola Police Department which currently utilizes nine K-9 teams who work hand-in-paw to keep their community safe. Each team is specially trained and certified in a variety of different duties. Some of the pup’s duties may include drug and narcotic detection, tracking and apprehension and bomb and explosives detection.

All the dogs are trained in voice and hand signal obedience but undergo additional training to be cross trained for various duties, but all officers must do numerous practices before getting to work. As part of their training, the team was brought to Butlers Auto Recycling to put their skills to their test as they search for items hidden by the officers amongst the used car parts in Pensacola.

“It is always great to support our community when we can,” says Jim Butler, owner of Butlers Auto Recycling. The facility is no stranger to hosting pups on the job though. Previously the company hosted the KlaasKIDS Search Training back in 2016 who specializes in searching for missing or trafficked children and utilizes their own canine team to aid in the search.
