Renting a private charter boat in St Thomas or St John in the U.S. Virgin Islands is the most popular day excursion for both cruise ship passengers and vacationers staying at hotels, time share properties or private villas. The problem for people traveling in larger groups has been finding a boat for rent that could accommodate more that 12 people. People with larger groups have been forced to rent multiple boats, which can be cost prohibitive, or join a pre-planned crowded group trip with strangers. Beach Bum Boat Rentals now offers a private, chartered boat for rent that accommodates up to 32 passengers. “We have private rental boats from 32? runabouts up to 47? express cruisers, but we didn’t have one boat that could carry up to 32 people before now,” says Brian Woeller, owner of Beach Bum Boat Rentals. “Most boats for rent in the Virgin Islands can only carry up to 6 or maybe 12 passengers due to Coast Guard regulations. For bigger groups, like wedding parties or large family reunions, we had to put multiple boats together to accommodate them. That works fine, but sometimes everyone in the group wants to be on the same boat, so now, we are able to do that,” says Woeller.

St Thomas and St John are very popular wedding and cruise ship destinations, and frequently have groups of 20-30 people looking for rental boats to accommodate them.

“We had 30 people in our group and had to rent 3 boats to take all of us out, says Kristin Krahl,” a frequent customer of Beach Bum Boat Rentals. “We always have a great time, but we love the idea of having everyone together on one boat, and it probably would be less expensive on a single boat when you add in the fuel and captains fees.”

Pricing on the 46? power cat is approximately $145 per person, depending on the number of people, and includes the boat rental, captain’s fees, fuel, drinks and some light food. British Virgin Islands customs fees (approximately $45 per person) are additional. The rental for the day is private and the itinerary is up to the customer, so the group can decide where they’d like to spend their time without having to be on someone else’s schedule.
