The Hometown Doctors Join Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
November 18, 2019 – – The Hometown Doctors, a direct primary care practice in Concord, North Carolina, had joined the Cabarrus Chamber of Commerce in the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Carolina Wellness Group, home of The Hometown Doctors P.A., Carolina Wellness Day Spa, and Genesis A New Beginning. The Carolina Wellness Group provides integrated healthcare solutions and includes counseling, medical clinic, neuroscience, day spa, family reunification, psychological services, faith based counseling, massage therapy, nutrition counseling, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy.
The Hometown Doctors offer medical care to Concord, Harrisburg, Kannapolis and surrounding counties. They aim to focus on patient-centered care, customizing their care for each individual while providing accessible and affordable medical care. As a way of achieving their goal, they plan to spend more time building a patient-physician relationship that they believe has been lost in today’s medical community.
Dr. Theodore Suggs, who practices family medicine at The Hometown Doctors, says, “With current changes in healthcare, I’m concerned that we are losing sight of personalized patient care and I’m also aware of the rising cost of healthcare. Direct Primary Care is the cheapest form of medical care available and the fastest growing medical model in the U.S. and is leading the way for the future of primary care.”
The Hometown Doctors team is made up of Dr. Theodore Suggs, M.D. for family medicine and Dr. Prachee Jain, M.D. for internal medicine. Dr. Suggs obtained his medical degree from the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Medicine. He completed his residency in family medicine at Moses Cone Hospital where he taught family medicine before moving to Harrisburg, NC, to practice medicine for the past 30 years. He also practices psychiatric medicine, particularly with regards to the treatment of conditions such as depression, anxiety and addiction.
Dr. Jain went to Boston University for his undergraduate degree and then went to Grenada, West Indies, to study at the St. George’s University, School of Medicine. This allowed her to observe how other countries are practicing medicine. She spent her third year of medical school in England, traveling to various places in the country, focusing on how to talk, the examination of patients, and making a diagnosis and developing a treatment plan.
The Hometown Doctors offer a wide range of medical services. These include: physicals (sports, annual); adult medical care; routine laboratory tests; management of severe or complicated high blood pressure; diabetes management; weight loss and healthy lifestyle coaching; dermatological procedures and minor office surgery, including cryosurgery for skin lesion removal; diagnosing and treating sleep apnea and other sleep disorders; treatment of cardiac problems; psychiatry care for anxiety and/or depression; treatment of breathing problems; cholesterol management and arrhythmias; treatment of kidney diseases, including chronic renal failure; treatment of gastrointestinal problems like diarrhea, chronic constipation, IBS, acid reflux, ulcers, diverticulitis, gallbladder disease, and hemorrhoids; and urgent care visits for sore throats, ear infections, poison ivy, and upper respiratory infections.
They also have special programs, such as the Diabetes Program, Weight Management Program, and Suboxone Therapy. Suboxone is for treating opiate addiction. As part of the suboxone therapy, they will offer counseling about opioid use disorder.
The diabetes program is tailored to a particular individual and his or her lifestyle. They will provide Continuous Glucose Monitoring for two weeks in order to help the patient adjust eating habits. This will also help the doctors in understanding how to better manage a particular patient’s diabetes.
Their weight management program is usually 12 weeks long and tailored specifically to an individual. They provide weekly counseling on healthy eating and the latest findings on obesity treatments and exercise regimens, and use various medications. The goal is to help the person lose weight and help maintain target weight for the long term.
