Haselden Construction Wins National Safety Excellence Award – Recognized for Safety Procedures, Jobsite Training and Risk Control

December 17, 2019 – – Haselden Construction recently won the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) Willis Towers Watson Construction Safety Excellence Award. The company, which at the time of application had more than 500 employees who worked more than one million man hours on jobsites in Colorado and Wyoming in 2018, competed against construction companies nationwide of similar or larger size. Finalists presented to a panel of industry and safety experts, and winners were announced at the AGC Annual Convention, held in Denver earlier this month.

The AGC Construction Safety Excellence Award (CSEA) is considered the industry’s leading safety award for general and specialty contractors, service providers, and suppliers across the United States. It recognizes companies that develop and implement innovative safety and risk control programs and demonstrate active and continuous safety and health management training among employees. Qualifying applicants are evaluated for company management commitment, active employee participation, safety training, work site hazard identification and control, and safety program innovation.

“This award is confirmation of the continuous improvement we strive for with our safety and health program,” said Byron Haselden, CEO and president of Haselden Construction. “Safety is part of our company culture, and our safety department has continued to expand its practices, procedures and ongoing training efforts to ensure that every one of our team members, and our partners, are committed to working safe.”

Haselden Construction’s Environmental Health and Safety Department reevaluated and revamped its entire safety program in 2018 to add more classroom and hands-on training for team members. The company conducted more than 5,600 hours of supervisor safety training in 2018 and introduced the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Site Safety Supervisor training course. The company’s safety program also includes:

Mandatory NCCER-accredited training for all new team members;OSHA 10-hour (subcontractors) and 30-hour training classes (team members) in both English and Spanish;Training videos in both English and Spanish;A mobile training facility for hands-on and specialized training on jobsites and remote areas; The “I Got Your 6” program that recognizes and rewards team members for catching and correcting behavior and processes that could be done in a safer manner;“Safety Bootcamp” for non-craft/construction personnel and team members new to the industry; andQR codes on team members’ hard hats for easy identification of that individual’s training and qualifications.

“It’s a privilege to witness Haselden Construction win this prestigious national safety award from our national organization,” said Michael Gifford, president and CEO of AGC Colorado. “With more than 175,000 construction workers in Colorado, proper safety procedures and training are imperative to ensure that our companies and their employees and partners have the resources needed to safely perform their jobs.”
