Anaheim Lighthouse Reveals How People in Addiction Recovery are Bringing in the New Year
January 03, 2020 – – Anaheim, California – New Year’s Eve is often synonymous with wild parties, sensational fireworks, and massive amounts of alcohol. But for the alumni and residents of Anaheim Lighthouse, a residential treatment center offering drug and alcohol recovery services in Anaheim, California, a different type of celebration took place.
Anaheim Lighthouse hosted a New Year’s Eve Movie Night with members of the alumni program, inpatient clients, staff, and their families. A selection of movies was shown on a giant projector screen, while viewers cozied up under the heaters.
According to La Donna Prewitt, Anaheim Lighthouse Facility Coordinator, this relaxed activity was held in lieu of the annual talent show that the Lighthouse used to host in previous years.
“We have decided to hold a more laid back event that families and children can partake in, so that everybody is included. This year, we offered cotton candy, pizza, and popcorn to provide a true movie night experience,” said Prewitt.
Jocel Bibera, Alumni Relations Coordinator of Anaheim Lighthouse, shared that they invited alumni members because New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day can be a challenging holiday period for their newly sober alumni as most of them were so accustomed to crazy parties and wild evenings out.
“We were happy to offer an event that was much more relaxed so that our community had an opportunity to bring in the New Year with a sense of peace,” said Bibera.
