(NSSA) East Coast Championships in
the Open Mens and Open Womens divisions.
Striving to achieve your best is a fundamental credo of Grom Social (‘Grom’ is an Australian slang term for a promising young individual who is quick to learn), and the family responsible for the popular website takes it to heart as an inspiring example to fellow Grom members everywhere.
While Zach founded Grom Social based on his vision for a kid-safe and fun online social destination expressly for the 5-16 set, the entire Marks family plays a vital role in its continuing growth, including mom Sarah, brothers Luke, Jack and Dawson and sisters Caroline and Victoria (the Marks kids’ ages range from 3-16).
For Luke Marks, his victory in the premier NSSA East Coast Championships’ Open Mens division has become his highest achievement to date in his youthful career – and the third Regional title for the Melbourne Beach 16-year-old. At the same time, 13-year-old Caroline Marks, who is the current National Open Womens Champion, stole the show in the female divisions at the East Coast Championships winning Open Womens, Open Girls, Explorer Womens and Explorer Girls. This marks the first time for a female to take four titles in a major championship event. The four victories brings Caroline’s career Regional Title count to five. To add to her accolades, Marks has earned two Performer of the Day honors on the second and fourth day of the event.
Both surfers now head to the NSSA National Championships in June with #1 top seed rankings from the East Coast region.
“We are extremely proud of Luke and Caroline for their historic achievement, and proud of all of our children – including the awesome children who comprise the ever-expanding Grom Social online community who demonstrate a profound dedication to their own goals and contribution to their families and community,” said dad Darren Marks who also serves as CEO of Grom Social.
While Grom Social puts an emphasis on fun entertainment, the social site also focuses on education and social responsibility, with a special emphasis on nti-bullying. Importantly, the Grom Social staff of helpers can see every post through ne screen – rather than having to continuously review the entire site – powering them to instantly stop any inappropriate text from publication.
For parents, Grom Social has become an online destination of choice for their kids. Grom Social’s many parental controls ensure that their children have a fun, educational – and safe – experience at all times when visiting the site. A ‘bad word filter’ monitors every section of the site to prevent any inappropriate language from surfacing. A staff of real-time “Grom Helpers” work 24/7 to cull through the site’s content, photos and chats to ensure the site’s safety and to be available for members’ inquiries which are responded to immediately.
About Grom Social
“Grom” is an Australian slang term for an apprentice surfer, adapted by Zach because the Marks family is heavily into surfing -Zach’s 16-year-old brother Luke and 13-year-old sister Caroline are among the top-ranked young amateur professional surfers in the world. After his dad Darren banned him from Facebook due to its lack of parental controls, Zach Marks launched Grom Social as a safe social media haven for kids in 2012 when he was 12-years-old. Today, Grom
Social is nearing one million members, has international affiliations and delivers an ideal environment for advertisers seeking to reach kids in all categories of entertainment and consumer products.
