Shasta Baker Earns C.F.E.I Certification and Helps Single Moms In South Florida Avoid Financial Failure
Miami mompreneur takes stand against financial illiteracy among millennials by launching a non-profit online school that teaches how to break free of poor money management and embrace true financial change.
Miami, United States – August 18, 2020 /MarketersMedia/ —
Miami-Dade-County recently went through its economic shutdown and single mother Shasta Baker went into action. Rather than play spectator, she rolled up her sleeves, got involved, and became the change she knew she needed to be to create the change needed in her community.
Refusing to be sedentary during the pandemic shut-down, Baker focused, read books, and continued her studies online. She took a 40-hour course to become a Certified Financial Education Instructor, passed it with a perfect score and then
co-developed her non-profit online school with the help of her two partners Daniel Shalach and Samantha Quinones.
The Kingdom Financial Academy is a Florida non-profit corporation launching on September 1st, 2020. The fully vetted curriculum has been used by Fortune 500 companies around the world and is fully available online via computer or mobile device.
The curriculum uses several forms of teaching including video and audio so that the student can best understand and apply what they have learned. To insure the course material is understood, all students get pre, mid, and post testing to both motivate them and help guide them on what they may not be clear about.
“I have been working and on my own since I was 16. I had to learn to budget, save money, and prepare for the immediate and distant future. When I became a mother many years later, I wanted to focus on education, financial literacy and to be an example to my daughter. This pandemic showed me that very few of my peers were mentally ready for the financial crisis. I realized that the same people that could not pay their bills before the pandemic because of lack of financial education and budgeting skills would now totally depend on the government for help unable to manage the money that came in leaving them in a worse position.” Baker said.
While the decisions millennials (defined as individuals age 18 to 37) make will affect the U.S. economy for the next 30 years, a 2020 study shows that only 16% of them are financially literate. Compounded by student loan debt, poor generational money habits and a society that focuses on the shiny object “wanted” rather than the practical thing “needed” it is no small wonder why the COVID shut down hurt the nation so…especially millennials.
“I want my fellow millennials to break free from the insecurity financial illiteracy brings. I would like them to be financially safe, sound, and secure. From experience I know this only comes through consistency with finances and that discipline can only be found through financial literacy. My relationship with Christ has allowed me to focus on what His purpose is for my life, and in this season, that includes helping others achieve financial stability.” Baker shared.
