Toronto, Canada, May 14, 2015 – Home Care Assistance – Toronto/York Region (www.HomeCareAssistance-Toronto.com), the leading provider of non-medical, in-home senior care in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), is weighing in on suggestions of having home care units for isolated areas.
Michael Nadli, member of the legislative assembly for the Deh Cho region of the Northwest Territories, recently commented on the number of seniors in his area who still require and are asking for care typically having to settle for staying in a long-term care facility. One solution, he proposes, could be to send “units,” which he defines as “a team of homecare workers with a designated registered nurse that could go out into the community” to attend to the seniors in these communities. “These seniors live in remote areas normally in northern towns and there just isn’t a large enough surplus of homecare workers to accommodate,” says Brian Shevel, president and CEO of Home Care Assistance – Toronto/York Region. “However, it’s unlikely that these seniors are any less inclined to receive care at home than those in more urban areas, so it’s exciting to hear new ideas about how to address these issues.”
Shevel explains that the concept Nadli put forward makes sense and would benefit seniors who prefer to maintain their independence and enjoy care at home: “Nurses working with the caregivers would especially be a great combination, as it offers a needed support system and ensures the seniors get the best home health care possible.”
“The senior population is increasing across the entire country and finding ways to manage the needs and health requirements of these elders is going to be crucial to their well-being,” Shevel concludes. “Seniors need to be active, stimulated, and around people they’re comfortable with, and this can best be achieved by receiving care at home.”
