London, UK – December 28, 2020 /MarketersMedia/ —
The Shoebox Project UK aims to help women with their self-esteem and confidence through the delivery of beautifully wrapped boxes filled with luxuries such as gift cards, lip balm, gloves and makeup accompanied by heartfelt letters to marginalized women who use shelters and refuges. As of last year, the project has donated over 400,000 boxes worth over 10 million pounds across 65 chapters in the UK, Canada and the United States.
While COVID-19 disrupts our existing model, this challenge is surmountable.
With cases of domestic abuse doubling since lockdown, we felt it was important to raise funds for the critical services needed by victims of abuse.
This past spring the Shoebox Project for Women invited donors to donate via the official website and included their donation with a letter to a woman in need via the Shoebox Project UK. This campaign encourages The Shoebox Project UK donors to write heartfelt letters of encouragement to the women in need; telling them that they are loved and valued.
Proceeds and encouraging letters were received at Centrepoint, Glass Door and Women at the Well shelters.
Proceeds and accompanying letters have gone to Centrepoint, Glass Door and Women at the Well shelters.
Impact: For women who have been displaced from their homes and estranged from their families, special occasions can be particularly challenging. Often, women report feeling disconnected from society, invisible and alone. A Shoebox gift is a powerful reminder for a woman that she has not been forgotten and that she remains a valued and respected member of her community.
For those giving gifts, The Shoebox Project is a tangible and creative opportunity to give back directly to someone in your very own community. It’s a small, simple gesture of kindness that has an immediate, positive impact on the woman who receives it.
