When asked to comment, he said, “Zantac has been one of the most popular medicines to help Americans combat heartburn. However, Zantac has now been recalled and linked to stomach, prostate, breast, liver, pancreatic, esophageal, and bladder cancer. Lawsuits against drug companies are gearing up to help compensate patients who received cancer diagnoses after taking the medicine.”
The presence of NDMA – which is a known carcinogen – has been found in Zantac, which led to the Federal and Drug Administration to recall the heartburn medicine on April 1, 2020.
A previous investigation concluded that the amount of NDMA was high enough in Zantac to be unsafe for consumers.
“Presently, Zantac lawsuits have recently been filed against drugmaker Sanofi, but we do not anticipate a resolution for a number of years . Any settlement amount could be substantial and include damages to cover the cost of medical bills, potential loss of wages, as well as both physical and emotional suffering.”
The basis of the lawsuits argues that there were previously existing studies showing that NDMA can be formed in drugs like Zantac when combined with certain elements. Despite the existing research, the manufacturers in the lawsuit did not warn the public of such a risk before consumption.
“Basically, what this all comes down to is that it was the responsibility of the drugmaker to be aware of the potential for NDMA to be in the drug and then to further make this known to the medical community and the public at large. However, they didn’t and continued to place company profits or patient safety and should be held responsible for compensating patients who have gotten sick as a result,” Fantini explained.
“If, after taking Zantac for an extended period of time, you or someone you know has been diagnosed with a cancer, then you might be entitled to compensation from a Zantac cancer lawsuit,” he said.
