Four Finalists Selected In Guardian Roofing’s Free Roof Give-Away

May 27, 2015 – – Seattle WA – Guardian Roofing today announced four finalists have been selected in its 1st annual Free Roof Giveaway community program. Voting now open at www.nwfreeroof.com

Noel McEwan of Lacey, nominated by herself: Finances were already tight for this family of four. Mom is on disability from kidney failure and dad barely makes enough for them to survive. Then a tree fell on their home and damaged their roof and their car. Unfortunately the insurance company did not provide enough to complete the repairs and only covered emergency covering. Now the insurance company is threatening to cancel unless the roof is fixed.

Debbie Swival of Kent, nominated by Anthony Perkins: Debbie has been suffering from breast cancer and is a single mother to 4 wonderful children. She has been suffering for the past year and has been through two bouts of radiation treatment. She has just started her initial rounds of chemo. Her work won’t let her be home so she has been taking radiation in her lunch breaks and now is missing pay do to full days of chemo. If she had stayed out past December they would have had to let her go. Since she could not afford that she continued working. Debbie is a wonderful woman with a big heart. Her roof is worn out, and riddled with tarps.

Kay Gordon of Lakewood, nominated by Marcia MacDonald: Kay is 86 years old, single and on a fixed income. The home is 50+years old with the original shake roof.. She is financially unable to install a new roof on her income and fears that further leaks will increase damage to her home.

Erika Sherman-Shackleford of Tacoma, nominated by Amy Allison: Erika used to be a teacher for Tacoma Public Schools. In 2012 she was walking from school and was hit by a truck. This led to migraine seizures and other illnesses, and she was no longer able to work. She has applied for disability but has not yet heard a determination. Last December her husband was making Erika some tea an accidental smoke fire started and contaminated the entire interior of their home. At this point they had a poor roof on a destroyed home! To make matters worse her husband’s job at JC Penney was eliminated due to downsizing. This made a bad financial situation even worse! As of now they are battling with the insurance company to repair the inside of their home, but have no money to protect the interior from damage caused by their faulty roof.

One of these community members will receive a free roof valued between $10-$20,000 from Guardian Roofing. The public is invited and encouraged to read the finalists’ stories and vote for their favorite at www.nwfreeroof.com

“We had an incredible number of wonderful nominees this year. The process to narrow to the final four was extremely challenging,” said Aaron Santas. “Our finalists are all very deserving and we look to our community to help us pick our winner with their votes.”
