New England DOT Physicals Launches New Resources for Commercial Drivers
Providing DOT physicals and additional resources helps commercial drivers maintain their certifications, publishes nedotphysicals.com
Reading, Massachusetts – September 1, 2021 /MarketersMedia/ —
According to the latest national reports, an estimated 3.5 million Americans currently hold a commercial driver’s license. Approximately 450,000 additional CDLs are issued each year. Receiving and maintaining a commercial driver’s license requires certain ongoing measures though many CDL holders aren’t fully aware of the expectations placed on them in this regard. With this in mind, Dr. Richard Mugavero of New England DOT Physicals has launched the practice’s latest array of resources for local commercial drivers and those hoping to obtain their CDLs.
“Quite a few newcomers to commercial driving think that once they’ve passed the written and physical tests for a CDL, they’re indefinitely certified to drive commercial vehicles,” noted Dr. Mugavero. “Even many long-time CDL holders aren’t fully aware of what it takes to keep their licenses valid. That results in quite a bit of confusion and numerous drivers losing their certifications. We’ve been providing DOT Medical Exam services for local drivers for years, but we realized we could further help our patients and the communities we serve by offering additional resources for commercial drivers to help them better understand what it takes to maintain their certifications.”
Among the resources New England DOT Physicals is making available to its patients are downloadable Massachusetts and New Hampshire self-certification forms. As of 2012, all commercial drivers are required to certify to their State Driver Licensing Agencies in which category of commercial driving they plan to operate. Known as self-certification, this form must be renewed every one to two years. Otherwise, the driver could lose his or her commercial driving privileges. Staff members can also assist patients with the self-certification process if needed.
Additionally, patients are able to download intrastate waiver applications through the practice’s website. Those who are unable to qualify for their CDL recertifications due to certain medical conditions may request a waiver to enable them to continue driving commercially. As is the case with medical cards and self-certifications, intrastate waiver applications must be completed and submitted periodically to prevent cancellation of the driver’s CDL. Patients can also find answers to common questions about CDL obtainment and recertification and a checklist detailing what to bring to their DOT Exam appointments via the practice’s website.
Concluded Dr. Mugavero, “We’re proud to offer flexible and affordable physicals to help commercial drivers keep up with DOT medical card requirements, but that’s only part of the process. Other measures are also essential for maintaining CDL qualifications. These resources and additional services we’ve made available will go even further to aid the commercial drivers that help keep our communities up and running.”
