You may notice something different the next time you search for a business, celebrity, or event on your phone. As of May 19th, Twitter and Google have paired up to bring tweets to Google Search on mobile devices.
Try searching what’s trending on mobile–whether that be a large company, Memorial Day Weekend, or a celebrity’s birthday–and you’re likely to see a section dedicated to “Popular on Twitter.”
The idea behind it? To deliver real-time content as search results when searching on the Google app or any browser.
“It’s a great way to get real-time info when something is happening,” writes Ardan Arac, Google’s Senior Product Manager in their recent blog post regarding the new feature. “And it’s another way for organizations and people on Twitter to reach a global audience at the most relevant moments.”
If you like one of the tweets you see in this new section, simply tap on it and be directed straight to Twitter, where you can see that same tweet and additional content surrounding it.
Google rolled out the update on Tuesday, May 19th, giving a thumbs up about the new feature:
And Twitter seems to be getting along with the multinational technology company just fine, playing off the infamous I’m Feeling Lucky button feature in the search engine with their witty response:
