DiveSeattle Announces Seattle’s Next Olympian Initiative
DiveSeattle Announces a Seattle Area Talent Drive to Find Young Gymnastic and Aquatic Athletes to Prepare for Olympic and World Competition
SEATTLE, WA / ACCESSWIRE / May 29, 2015 / DiveSeattle, an active community of springboard diving coaches, parents and athletes, today announced a new competitive talent drive to find Seattle’s Next Olympian.
Built around the USA Diving Association’s Future Champions program, DiveSeattle will be actively reaching out to parents and community aquatic center leaders to identify and develop potential for dive gymnastics athletes as young as age 5 and help prepare them for both World Championship as well as Olympic Trial competition.
Said Patti McEuen, Founder of DiveSeattle, an All American diver, and a 25 year veteran of the Seattle Springboard Diving Community:
“The Next Olympian Talent Drive offers a unique opportunity to a few young gifted athletes, and their parents, to compete at the highest levels of Collegiate, World, and Olympic Springboard Diving competition. By reaching promising gymnasts, athletes and swimmers and at a very early age and preparing them physically and mentally to advance through from beginner to elite levels of training,we are preparing these chosen few for a championship life.”
The program will be open to all athletes, regardless of experience, background or economic status and will involve several community centers, alumni athletes and parents who may refer candidates. Athletes who demonstrate financial need will be paired with sponsors, donors and scholarship funds to participate.
Ms McEuen also stressed that the impact of this focus for DiveSeattle, as a community, would be just as important to all the recreational divers in the program.
“The focus of our Next Olympian program will help upgrade our coaching and training systems that all our divers and families will benefit from. Certainly, most of the springboard divers we train are not going to end up in Olympic or even World Competition,” said McEuen, “but we don’t just teach springboard diving,we train athletes of every kind to build a champion mindset, to stretch out of their comfort zone, and to be able to take on new physical breakthroughs as they learn to fly through the air which is what many kids tell us they experience, that learning to dive is like learning to fly through the air. “
DiveSeattle will be doing informal scouting trips to area pools and aquatic centers to introduce the program throughout the summer before a more formal talent screening begins in the fall. As part of the talent drive over the summer, DiveSeattle will also soon be announcing several community events, meets, a dive-a-thon, and individual special guest coach visits to further raise awareness.
