Roots Carpinteria Advances Through County’s Coastal Development Review Process
– April 1, 2022 /MarketersMEDIA/ —
SCL, LLC dba “Roots Carpinteria” is pleased to announce its application for a cannabis retail store in the Toro Canyon/Summerland Planning Area, located at 3823 Santa Claus Lane, has been deemed complete. County Planning and Development will begin reviewing the project for processing immediately, according to a letter received on March 17th.
“We are very happy to have reached this milestone”, said Luis Castaneda, director of retail operations for Roots Carpinteria, and the designated community liaison for the project.
Roots Carpinteria is one of six (6) applicants in the County’s merit-based cannabis retail storefront selection process, which started in early 2020, to win a license. More than 22 applications were submitted. The company beat out one other applicant in the Toro Canyon/Summerland Planning Area.
According to Mr. Castaneda, they’ve planned for a lengthy process. “We’ve always understood this process is a marathon and not a sprint. We’ve assembled an experienced team of land use, government, and public affairs professionals to help us navigate the process.“ Mr. Castaneda says his team is looking forward to the next phase.
“Now we’ll proceed with our community education and outreach program which involves reaching out to our neighbors, and other stakeholders to share our vision of how we plan to be civically engaged, corporately responsible, ethical, and values focused as we partner with the County, the City of Carpinteria, as well as the Sheriff’s Department, and the entire community in making the Carpinteria Valley a safe and fun place to live, work, and visit.”
The County expects the project to be scheduled for a hearing before the Zoning Administrator in early May. The project, which is located within the Coastal Zone, requires a Coastal Development Permit.
Mr. Castaneda says the project development team is exploring adding energy-efficient building design features to help the County meet its goals under its Climate Action Plan. Other green initiatives are also under consideration, including electric vehicle charging stations and converting the building to solar power.
