Death of Mike Davis, Prominent Austin, Texas Trial Lawyer
Austin, TX – April 1, 2022 —
Slack Davis Sanger founding partner and trial attorney Mike Davis passed away on March 30, 2022.
Mike was a graduate of the University of Texas, a distinguished law graduate of St. Mary’s Law School and a briefing attorney for Justice Franklin Spears on the Texas Supreme Court. Mike was recognized as a brilliant advocate whether in the courtroom or for his outstanding legal writing in a brief.
Mike Davis, his father Tom Davis, and Mike Slack founded Slack Davis Sanger in 1993 with an emphasis on legal excellence, the highest ethical standards, client service and the use of cutting-edge concepts and technology to litigate technically and legally complex cases for plaintiffs. Since its founding, the firm has tried or litigated complex injury and death cases in state or federal courts in 39 different states.
With Mike Davis’ significant contributions, the new firm was, from its inception, innovative. It broke from traditional notions of how plaintiffs law firms should be organized, structured, and managed. From its earliest days, Mike was instrumental in introducing the latest technologies for law firm use even when those products and services had not been developed for law firm usage.
Despite being diagnosed with lymphoma in 1995, just two years after the firm was established, Mike Davis continued to practice law at the highest levels. He was certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and he was a selected for membership in the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA).
Mike Davis was an expert on vehicle crashworthiness and was frequently invited to speak and write on topics related to handling vehicular accident cases. Mike always strove to be his very best and was known for his humor, his intelligence, and his kindness but above all his love for family and friends.
For years, Mike volunteered considerable time and energy to the Oak Hill Youth Association baseball programs. He was often referred to as “The Commissioner” by players and parents. Until shortly before his death, Mike was actively participating in men’s slow-pitch softball, traveling to out of state tournaments. His love of “all things baseball” was superseded only by his passion for bird hunting with his Labrador Retrievers.
Mike is survived by his wife Susan, son Ty Davis and daughter-in-law, Ashleigh. There will be a visitation at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday April 16, 2022.
Slack Davis Sanger, which will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2023, will continue to employ the ideals, values, and goals that Mike Davis expressed throughout his legal career.
