On the 26th of June, the Foundation for A Drug Free World held a community training workshop at the Castle Kyalami in commemoration of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Over 80 drug awareness and education activists from several NGOs throughout Gauteng, Ekurhuleni Parliament, Kaizer Chiefs former player, community leaders, civil society and officers from the Johannesburg Metro Police Department, were treated to a cutting edge workshop on the approach of drug awareness in our drug infested and drowning society.

“Drug abuse has been an epidemic in South African culture for decades and gets worse and deadlier by the second. Solely responsible for the death and destruction of the youth daily, it is high time we confront this hidden enemy that is slowly but surely ripping our country to pieces,” said Kabelo Kgosana, representative of the Foundation for a Drug Free World who facilitated the workshop.

The anticipated workshop trained the attendees on the main drugs available in society, their side effects and how to create successful groups to reach the youth before drug dealers do. It further equipped them to properly educate the youth to the true nature of drugs.

Throughout the event, the attendees were excited to learn about all the methods used by the Foundation to educate the youth on drugs, an activity that has resulted in the Foundation For A Drug Free World having educated over a billion kids and adults around the globe on the dangers of drugs.

One of the attendees, Ms. Mabayi, a community leader from Daveyton, stood up during the workshop to express her gratitude and said, “I am so happy to have attended this workshop at the Castle.  I can see for myself the humanitarian movement that has been started by the Foundation for A Drug-Free World and this is amazing! I feel properly educated to confront the issue of drug abuse head on. Thank you very much for this opportunity to learn this valuable knowledge.”

Mr. Bafana Modise from the Tsoga Mocha Youth Foundation, was also thrilled with the workshop. He said, “You guys really run an amazing organization. I didn’t even know what to expect and I must say this was a day well spent at the Castle Kyalami. I love the Truth About Drugs program and its educational and profound information”. Another surprise guest, Mthokozisi Yende, retired and well-loved Kaizer Chiefs former player also was in attendance. He said “This was a great Drug-Free World conference I must say! This campaign is taking the right direction to save the world, generation to generation. People need to get help in every direction and it starts with us now.”

The Foundation for a Drug-Free World is a nonprofit public benefit corporation supported by the Church of Scientology around the world, empowering youth and adults with factual information about drugs so they can make informed decisions and live drug-free.

Through a worldwide network of volunteers, 50 million drug prevention booklets have been distributed, tens of thousands of drug awareness events have been held in some 180 countries and Truth About Drugs public service announcements have aired on more than 500 television stations. These materials and activities have helped people around the world learn about the destructive side effects of drugs and thereby make the decision for themselves. “Once educated about drugs and its effects, hundreds of thousands take a stand not to start drugs and pledge to stay away from them,” said Kgosana.

“No one, especially a young person, likes to be lectured about what he or she can or cannot do. Thus, we provide the facts that empower youth to choose not to take drugs in the first place, “concluded Kgosana.

The Church of Scientology has been actively working against drug abuse for decades. Its founder, L. Ron Hubbard, has always been looking for solutions to reduce the crippling spread of drugs and his research in the field brought unparalleled drug rehabilitation solutions to the world.
