Sheffield Dragon Hot Sauce Celebrates 2 Star Award At 2023 Great Taste Awards

Sheffield Dragon has recently won at the Great Taste Awards, with three of their products winning awards in the Chilli & Hot Sauces Category. Their Liquid Fire Hot Sauce, Hot Fuzzz Hot Sauce, and Renegade Mango were each selected for special recognition.

South Yorkshire-based chilli products brand, Sheffield Dragon, has announced that they are celebrating the results of the Great Taste Awards 2023, with 3 products in the Chilli & Hot Sauces Category each taking away a recommendation.

Chief amongst the award winners was the Renegade Mango hot sauce, which won the 2-star award. Balancing mangos with fiery habaneros, and made of all-natural ingredients, including vinegar, garlic, and other spices, judges commented on their appreciation of the lack of sweetness usually associated with mango, as the sauce hit a sour note instead. They went on to comment that “there were great aromas of both the ginger and mango from this hot sauce. The flavour profile is delicious and rounded, with length and depth. The chilli notes fit in well, giving both their flavour and a gentle heat.”

“We are absolutely delighted to have won 3 great taste awards at the first time of trying,” said Sheffield Dragon owner, Andrew Armstrong. “I’m so proud that just a few years on from starting the business we have been awarded not only 1 star awards for Hot Fuzzz and Liquid Fire, but also a 2 star award for Renegade Mango. We received fantastic feedback on the flavours and it really proves that great chilli sauces can taste great!”

Aside from the 2 Star award for the Renegade Mango hot sauce, Sheffield Dragon won two further 1-star awards. One was for their Liquid Fire hot sauce, which uses the flavour of the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion chilli alongside fresh tomatoes and Scotch Bonnets. The Hot Fuzzz Hot sauce, a peach hot sauce that uses Naga Jolokia chillies, also won a 1-star award.

The Great Taste Awards has judged thousands of products over more than 25 years running. Over 500 experts take part in panels offering impartial feedback, with the opportunity to win 1-star, 2-star, and 3-star accolades. A highly respected seal of approval, the Great Taste Awards are participated in by chefs, buyers, retailers, and food writers from across the industry.

Originating from a single big bag of chillies that its owner was trying to find a use for, one batch of chilli chutney led to a passion for the taste of well-made chilli products. Sheffield Dragon was founded as a result, with local markets and shops taking an initial interest.
