BYD Crewe Partners with St. Michael’s Academy For Lunar New Year Celebration

BYD Crewe, part of Swansway Motor Group, partnered with the local community to host a vibrant Lunar New Year celebration.

Crewe, Cheshire, February 4, 2025 — BYD Crewe, part of Swansway Motor Group, has partnered with EYFS at St. Michael’s Community Academy on Holland Street to host a vibrant Lunar New Year celebration, showcasing a stunning display of traditional Chinese lanterns crafted by pupils of the school. The collaboration aims to engage the local community in a meaningful and educational way, while celebrating one of the most important festivals in Chinese culture.

The Lunar New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, marks the beginning of the Chinese calendar year and is celebrated worldwide within Chinese communities. To honour this tradition, BYD Crewe—a franchise retailer for the leading Chinese automotive brand specialising in electric vehicles—has transformed their showroom into a cultural celebration with the creative work of St. Michael’s pupils taking centre stage.

“As a family-run business, we’re always seeking ways in which we can involve the local community in our celebrations. As a franchise retailer for a Chinese automotive brand, the Lunar New Year seemed like the perfect opportunity for us to do so,” commented Sam Booth, Head of Business at BYD Crewe.

The showroom display is further complemented by craft stations for younger visitors to create their own masterpieces, as well as light refreshments powered by BYD’s innovative vehicle-to-load (VTL) technology.

The partnership has offered tangible benefits to St. Michael’s Community Academy, a diverse and welcoming school that values the contribution of every pupil. The creative lantern project provided an educational and engaging classroom activity, allowing pupils to learn about Chinese culture while expressing their creativity. To further enhance the initiative, BYD Crewe has made a monetary donation to the school, enabling the purchase of additional art supplies for future projects.

Rebecca Eastham, Nursery Lead at St. Michael’s Community Academy added “Through the creative process of making lanterns for Chinese New Year, our young learners in the EYFS (2-5 years old) have not only embraced cultural traditions but also developed key skills in fine motor coordination, teamwork, and problem-solving. As they worked together, the children took great pride in their creations, showcasing a sense of accomplishment. This hands-on activity encouraged imagination, fostered a sense of achievement, and enhanced their understanding of the world around them”.
