Lori G. McDowell Announces the Release of Her First Children’s Book, “Fishing with Jesus on a Small Boat”

Lori G. McDowell, tournament angler and author, announces the release of her debut children’s book, Fishing with Jesus on a Small Boat, launching March 18, 2025. The book blends her passions for sportfishing, family, and faith to inspire young readers.

Carrollton, Georgia, United States, February 27, 2025 — The book, which is now available for pre-order on platforms such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Apple Books, introduces children to the world of sport fishing while highlighting the importance of being on the believer boat. Drawing from McDowell’s personal experiences on the water, the story aims to encourage young readers to see Jesus’ presence in both the small and big moments of life.

A Year of Transformation and Success

As a member of the Lifeline Sportfishing Team, McDowell made her mark competitively in the 2024 Sport Fishing Championship. Her team earned the prestigious title of Zane Grey Champions and she was the lady angler. Their team had struggled to win in previous years, then they began securing major victories, including winning the Gulf Division and clinching the Zane Grey Championship in Cabo, Mexico this past year.

McDowell attributes much of her team’s success to unity and prayer. “It’s been amazing to see Jesus strategically work in our lives, especially over the past year,” McDowell says. “Our victories are a direct result of HIS grace and inviting HIM into the process.”

The Birth of a Children’s Book Series

Inspired during a personal fast with her church, McDowell began working on the manuscript for Fishing with Jesus on a Small Boat in January 2024. The idea was more than just a story about fishing—it was an opportunity to share her faith with children in a way that is engaging, relatable, and adventurous. As the book enters its final stages before release, McDowell is excited to share it with families and young readers around the world.

The story follows the family on an exciting fishing adventure while subtly weaving in life lessons about faith and perseverance. McDowell plans for Fishing with Jesus on a Small Boat to be the first book in a series that will introduce young readers to the world of sportfishing. With each new book, McDowell hopes to provide a lasting message of hope and faith.

“Fishing brings people together and the ocean is where I feel closest to my heavenly father,” McDowell explains. “This book is a way to connect with children, showing them HIS promises are true, and that Jesus is with us in every part of our journey, no matter how big or small.”

A Role Model for Women in Sports

McDowell’s journey as a woman in a male-dominated sport has inspired aspiring female athletes. Her accomplishments as a tournament angler show the power of perseverance, passion, and, above all, faith.

Her dedication to sport fishing, however, is just one part of her story. She tragically lost her father and brother at the young age of twenty and her mother in 2016. As a wife, and mom, McDowell champions the importance of spending quality time together. “Time is our greatest gift to give one another,” McDowell shares. “I just told my husband and boys they weren’t leaving me at the dock.” Some of her most precious memories have been made on the water.

A Vision for the Future

The release of her first book is just the beginning of an exciting new chapter in her career, blending her love of sport fishing with her desire to inspire the next generation. She hopes this book series will encourage children to embark on their own adventures—both in fishing and in faith. 

“I love the ocean, I love my family, and I hope to encourage many with my life story. Ultimately, helping kids understand that nothing is impossible with Jesus and inspiring them to reel in HIS promises, through fishing, in a meaningful and impactful way,” says McDowell.
