Researchers Reveal New and Inexpensive Method for DNA Testing
Researchers for Harvard and the Diagnostics for All foundation have revealed a new, groundbreaking development that will allow for affordable DNA testing and evaluation in all corners of the world. Learn more here.
Atlanta, GA, United States – July 16, 2015 /PressCable/ —
A team working for Diagnostics for All foundation and Harvard University has announced a new development, which will help to advance the medical practices of countries previously unable to afford DNA diagnostics. This new machine, called the “Paper Machine” by its developers, will only cost around $2 for each test performed. This is marginally less than previous costs associated with DNA testing, which would require an experienced medical staff and laboratory to perform.
Not only does the “Paper Machine” help make this essential test affordable for developing countries and offers extremely precise results, it will also simplify the testing process, allowing for flexibility in the environment where the test is performed. A black light can be used to illuminate the resulting sample, and a smart phone camera can be used to verify the presence of the dye.
In reference to their creation, the study authors said “Starting with human plasma spiked with whole, live E. coli cells, this paper demonstrates full integration of sample preparation with LAMP amplification and end point detection with a limit of detection of 5 cells. Further, it shows that the method used to prepare sample enables concentration of DNA from sample volumes commonly available from fingerstick blood draw.”
Whats more, their respective foundations have publicly promised to bring this simplified DNA testing machine to the most remote and impoverished corners of the world.
Ethical Online Business shares in these companies goal to spread technology and awareness around the globe. When asked about this announcement, Fran Jeffries, a representative for the company, said “This is a step in the right direction for the overall wellbeing of the global community.
