In Washington DC, there is a passionate group of believers breaking every model of what it means to be a Christian in the public square. This group is looking to mobilize the whole church of America to the capital city to sustain a 24/7/365 song of worship to the Highest King, Jesus, in the pattern of David’s Tabernacle. This initiative is gathering swift momentum as it resonates with believers across America who are eagerly seeking to bring Jesus back into the center of public conversation. David’s Tent DC is scheduled to run day and night from September 11, 2015 – November 8, 2016 in Washington, D.C.

The announced length of this event should make it the longest running outdoor Christian worship event in the history of the United States. And to make it even more significant, David’s Tent is happening within view of the White House, the U.S. Capitol, and under the shadow of the Washington Monument. This is as public as it gets!

According to event organizers, David’s Tent DC is a gathering place for the Church of America to publicly worship Jesus from the most public place in the nation – the famous grounds of the National Mall. This is the 4th year in a row David’s Tent DC has run in Washington, D.C. Since 2012, hundreds of worship teams have paid their own way to come to DC and participate, drawing thousands of worshipers from all 50 states. It’s estimated that over 100,000 Christians have attended the live events or viewed the live webcasts from David’s Tent DC.

David’s Tent is inspired by the biblical event about 3,000 years ago where King David moved the Ark of the Covenant into a tent in Jerusalem, the capital city of Israel. King David then hired 4,000 musicians and 288 singers to minister to the heart of the God of Israel 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for the rest of his reign.

Jason Hershey, the founder of David’s Tent DC, says: “Our desire is to call attention to the beauty of Jesus, and to lead our generation in celebrating that Jesus is Lord. He should be enthroned above every area of our lives, even above the government of our great nation. Psalm 22:3 states: ‘Yet you are holy, O you who are enthroned upon the praises of Israel.’” Hershey continues, stating: “the three main purposes why we do David’s Tent are, first, the worthiness of Jesus to be worshiped. Second, as an act of intercession for America. And third, as an evangelistic witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ.”

David’s Tent DC is helping America do what no nation except Israel has done in over 3,000 years: worship God publicly in the nation’s capital city 24/7. This year, starting September 11, David’s Tent DC will run for over a year leading up to Election Day in 2016.

David’s Tent is asking for people to partner with them by spreading the word to Christians across America, inviting them to come join the National Worship Offering at David’s Tent DC. All are welcome to come worship at any time, but David’s Tent specifically needs thousands of worship teams to come and lead from the stage. In the past, teams have driven over 1,000 miles to D.C., done a 2 hour worship set at David’s Tent, then turned right around and driven home. “It’s amazing what Christians will do when God gets a hold of their heart,” says Ryan Montgomery, one of the organizers of David’s Tent DC.

With no corporate sponsorship, David’s Tent has always survived on the small gifts of grassroots Christians from all over the U.S. In past years, financial support has always been enough to pay all the bills associated with the 1,000 hour continuous event. This year requires greater faith because the event is over 10 times longer than previous years. But as public events go, it’s a bargain, costing only about $2 per minute to run. According to Hershey, “God has always been faithful to fulfill the financial needs of David’s Tent in the past!”

Prayer is also needed. The staff, volunteers, and worship teams of David’s Tent deeply desire support through prayer for the work of David’s Tent, and that the heart of America would be drawn to the beauty and worth of Jesus.
