Distracted Driving Month

Dallas, Texas / Submit Press Release 123 /

Having seen the injuries that can result from distraction-affected crashes, Ms. Witherite hopes that all Texans pay attention to campaigns aimed at preventing distracted driving.

One such campaign is the federal “U Drive. U Text. U Pay.” National Distracted Driving Enforcement Campaign. For a week in April, state and local law enforcement agents aggressively ticket drivers who are texting or otherwise using their mobile phones in states where such actions are illegal. The new awareness effort is supported by a national television, radio, and digital advertising campaign. This campaign reminds Americans of the deadly consequences of distracted driving and of the financial penalties for violating state distracted driving laws. Currently 45 states ban text messaging for drivers of all ages; other states ban cell phone use by novice drivers.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data shows that at least 3,000 people were killed in crashes involving distracted drivers in 2013 and that approximately 424,000 Americans were injured in distraction-affected crashes in 2013. More statistical facts:
