RIBA Venues Social Media is Changing the Conference Landscape

Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat and Periscope are a number of sites that are changing the way companies do business at conferences

25 August, 2015 – United Kingdom – Everything has a hashtag now and for those that don’t know, it is a social media method allowing people to categorise their online posts such that others interested in the topic can read it easily. It allows you to search for what people are saying on a particular topic and engage with others.

It isn’t just day to day life that social media has changed, the business world has changed too. More and more businesses have social media accounts in order to promote their brand and manage public relations. It allows brands to integrate with their customers, especially online brands that do not have bricks and mortar stores.

Social media is being integrated into conferences more and more especially with the help of second screen technology. Second screen technology is where delegates can view the content of the conference on their mobile device during the conference. This allows them to share the information online and in turn, build brand awareness. Importantly the conference extends beyond the walls of the conference venue and is available for millions to see. Even a large conference venue in London can’t compete with a conference that goes viral. Okay this doesn’t happen often but it does happen especially at big product launches.

Stephanie Ellrott form RIBA Venues said: “We make sure our conference rooms are modern and up to date. There is Wi-Fi access and the audio visual equipment is state of the art. The venue is very impressive with beautiful art deco architecture and the perfect place to hold a conference.”
