Xarelto Lawsuit Updates Show An Increase In Mass Tort Filings
November 18, 2015 – – BloodThinnerHelp.com reports on recent developments showing an increase in the lawsuits filed against blood-thinner Xarelto in Philadelpha’s mass tort group. The group was created in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania after a motion was made to consolidate the growing cases, which now number around 478. Federally, they are joined by over 1,700 cases filed against the drug. All cases similarly allege that Xarelto causes uncontrollable bleeding. Since this consolidation and the formation of MDL 2592 with all federal cases, additional cases have been increasingly appearing.
Xarelto litigation is still in discovery and pretrial stages, and it will likely take some time for trials to begin. It is expected that in the meantime, cases will continue to be filed. Cases filed in the PA mass tort group have been consolidated in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas’ Complex Litigation Center.
Allegations are made against defendants Bayer AG and Janssen Pharmaceuticals, (a division of pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson). Details within the suits commonly allege that the drug, which offers no antidote at this time, can cause serious bleeding injuries and even death in those using it. Plaintiffs also state that the medication’s manufacturers failed to adequately warn consumers and physicians of the risks associated with their drug. They claim that it is negligent to release the drug to the market without being able to release a corresponding antidote.
Many consider Xarelto to be the most dangerous blood thinner on the market at this time. The fact that it has no antidote means that if someone taking the drug becomes injured and begins to bleed, the bleed can become uncontrollable because the drug will not allow that person’s blood to clot. In these instances, physicians can do nothing to get the blood to clot, and have to resort to life-saving measures such as blood transfusions.
Individuals taking traditional blood thinners, such as warfarin, have an antidote available. These types of blood thinners respond to vitamin K. If these patients are injured and bleeding, doctors can administer vitamin K, counteracting the effects of the drug and allowing their blood to clot.
Many of the lawsuits which have been filed in Philadelphia’s mass tort group cite internal bleeding and wrongful death. The plaintiffs and families involved are seeking compensation for medical bills, lost wages and future earnings, loss of companionship, and even funeral and burial expenses.
Due to the fact that other cases are expected to continue to be filed, Marc Goldich, Esq. is working to help ensure that individuals involved are able to explore their legal rights. Anyone who has taken Xarelto and suffered adverse health events may be entitled to compensation. Attorney Goldich is offering free legal consultations to these individuals at this time.
