Bellwether Trial Selection Just Days Away For Xarelto Bleeding Lawsuits In Louisiana MDL

January 08, 2016 – – BloodThinnerHelp.com reports on bellwether trial selection for cases involved in Xarelto multidistrict litigation number 2592, which is scheduled to take place in a matter of days, on January 11th, 2016. Plaintiffs who have filed lawsuits which were consolidated in the MDL are anxiously looking forward to seeing things progress. The litigation is being overseen in the Eastern District of Louisiana by the Honorable Judge Eldon Fallon. Lawsuits which were consolidated all contain similar allegations filed against defendants Bayer AG and Janssen Pharmaceuticals‘ regarding their blood thinning drug, Xarelto. Plaintiffs have reported that MDL cases currently number over 2,800.

When it first launched onto the scene as a brand new type of blood thinner, Xarelto was considered revolutionary. Suddenly, a blood thinner was available to the public that did not require special diets or regular monitoring by physicians; and it was the only blood thinner to offer a once-daily, one-size-fits-all dose. After just a short time, however, consumers began to realize that Xarelto had some serious downfalls as well. The biggest of which, according to many, was its lack of corresponding antidote.

Without an available antidote, patients using Xarelto had to be incredibly careful of being injured and bleeding, either internally or externally. Even minor injuries could result in a dangerous, uncontrollable bleed for patients taking Xarelto, because physicians have nothing to treat them with to reverse the effects of the drug and clot their blood. This means a minor cut could cause a substantial loss of thinned blood.

Today, manufacturers have yet to develop an antidote for Xarelto. It has been reported that they are working on it, however, four years have now passed with nothing released to market. If someone using Xarelto is bleeding, doctors must resort to extreme life-saving measures such as surgery or blood transfusions in an attempt to save that person’s life.

Traditional blood thinners do not create the same level of danger, as they do have an available antidote. When patients taking these blood thinners begin to bleed, physicians are able to treat them with vitamin K, countering the effects of the blood thinner and allowing that patient’s blood to clot. This difference could be a life-saving one in many situations.

Since the initial formation of the Xarelto MDL by the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation, lawsuit numbers have continued to grow. Judge Fallon has asked that a 40-case bellwether pool be chosen to help prepare cases for trial. From this pool, 4 bellwether trials will be carefully selected to be heard in 2017.

Attorney Joseph Osborne is currently working to help those who have suffered adverse health events after using Xarelto. He wants to provide these individuals with the opportunity to fully explore their legal rights. They may be entitled to legal action and significant compensation. At this time, Attorney Osborne is offering free Xarelto consultations for those who qualify.
