Web Design Company In Raleigh Releases Secure Design Advisory

January 13, 2016 – – DunnTek, a business in Apex, NC, has released an advisory on the importance of information security in the website design process. As a respected web design Raleigh business, the company wants to make sure that clients know their information safety is of paramount importance, and that there may be things that both the business and their web designer should be doing to help protect the business online.

Brian Dunn of DunnTek says: “I just want to explain why you need to take this subject seriously, and share some thoughts about what you can do about it. Security has always been part of how I approach solution design because no implementation is complete without appropriate security controls – without them, you’re just begging for trouble. What you need to know is that unless you have made specific provisions for the security of your website, you’re probably receiving a lot less protection than you think, and the potential impact of getting hacked is likely worse than you’d imagine.”

The advisory post highlights a number of hacking facts, which show just how unsafe certain websites are. What is worrisome is that these security concerns include WordPress, which is one of the most popular tools out there to help people build their own sites. Dunn has also explained that the dangers of this go far beyond loss of data, since sites can be severely penalized by Google as a result of hacking, thereby losing much of their online authority, if not even blacklisted entirely.

“A data breach can cost you your business, jail time, and financial penalties, so I hope you’ll agree that it’s worth taking seriously,” explains Dunn, referencing an article in Data Breach Today about 800,000 stolen banking credentials. “Realize that ‘they’ are actively looking for targets just like you at this very moment, with tens of thousands of websites getting hacked every single month.” With such a huge volume of website being hacked, this certainly appears to be a threat that any business owner would be concerned about. In fact, PC World reported that in one month alone, over 50,000 WordPress sites were compromised through a single vulnerability.

DunnTek has released this advisory to help small business owners understand both the magnitude of the problem, as well as how to work with their web designer to ensure that at least a bare minimum of security controls are in place to make the business a less appealing target.
